USAFA Recruited for non sport activity?

Hello everyone. I have applied for USAFA 2029 and am curious if there is a way to be recruited for a non sport activity. Specifically I have created and manage a military history themed stop motion YouTube channel with over 17,000 subscribers and 8.3 million views. The same way a high achieving athlete can have a USAFA coach advocate for him to admissions, is there someone who could advocate for me?

I know that USAFA makes a lot of videos for admissions advertisement and my skills would be very valuable for stuff like that.

Thanks in advance for the insight!

I don't want to rain on your parade but I seriously doubt that USAFA will "recruit" for what you are seeking. I don't know for sure who makes the USAFA videos that you're referring to but at least at USNA, there are actually enlisted folks and officers who specialize in Public Affairs and I believe
that the USAF has similar staffing. They also do not really recruit for the yearbook or other non varsity athletic extracurricular activities.

Ditto this.
Colleges, especially D1 colleges really only recruit for sports, in accordance to NCAA or NAIA regulations. Activities which USAFA may recruit for are listed here under Teams. https://goairforcefalcons.com/
They won't peruse YouTube and scout for talent. It's not their forte or audience. USAFA does have a Cadet Media team, but that's a club you join after you get there. Considering it's the Air Force and flying is their thing, they don't even recruit pilots with PPL or UAV certification. Like any professional organization, USAFA utilizes professional PR people like PAOs (Public Affairs Officers) and Public Affairs Specialists to handle their videos and marketing.

Agree with above comments.

USAFA is looking for people who are strong in leadership, academics, athletics. ECAs ideally contribute to those.

Athletes are recruited not just for physical fitness, but for skills and traits that often go with participation in organized sports: leadership, strategic planning, results-driven, problem-solving, time management, decision-making, risk analysis, work ethic, physical toughness, mental determination, focus, resilience, adaptiveness, self-discipline, and others. As noted, there is a formal process for that.

For you to have achieved success with your YouTube channel probably indicates you have some desired traits and skills of a future AF or SF officer. That is USAFA’s mission: to produce professionally trained officers to replenish the ranks of AF and SF.

If you are offered an appointment, your skills with videos might make you a valued asset once the academic year starts for cadet-made spirit videos. I’m using the Navy term for videos made before football games, particularly SA-SA games.

Best wishes to you for an appointment, and once there and through the summer, I hope you find an outlet for your talent.

If you haven’t run across Rylan Tuohy’s YouTube channel yet, he was legendary as a USNA midshipman and later as a Navy officer for the videos he made. And is still making, in hs civilian career.

Here’s a sample, because it is always fun to find a reason to post a USNA video in the USAFA forum. There are many to choose from on his channel.

Also unfortunately we were told to cease all social media accounts representing usafa yesterday. So any squadron, or even the supt Instagram for example. I have no idea how this will effect say the YouTube admissions but I know Facebook is not allowed.

17,000 subscribers and 8.3 million views is exceptional. It demonstrates mastery over not only content creation but marketing, to some degree, as well. It is a differentiator and I would make sure this is worked as a major theme in your essays. Also, ask your teachers to reference it in their recommendation letters. Good luck.

Does that mean the squadron IG and FB pages as examples?

That ought to help with recruitment...

Really? Including the official USAFA FB page where they post weather and road conditions/closures? How else are people who need to be on base supposed to get that info?
Unfortunately I'm too low on the totem pole to know anything more than most. However when inquiring we were told to check recent changes.

"The Department of Defense issued a global pause on all official social media accounts Thursday evening, with an exception for posts related to U.S. military operations at the U.S.-Mexico border. The moratorium is meant to ensure that DOD social media aligns with President Donald Trump’s “priorities on readiness, lethality, and warfighting,” a senior defense official who declined to be identified told Stars and Stripes by email Friday. “The directive applies to all DOD platforms and exceptions are extended to post social media on a case-by-case basis to support emergency situations/notifications of command information,” the official said."

I'm assuming this would be a possible reasoning and answer to the emergency question. Looking around I see other news sources reporting the same facts.

That’s unfortunate. I love the almost Friday posts. They always make me smile. Too bad they’re going to be gone :(
