USCGA Class of 2024 Appointment Thread

Just officially accepted a very generous scholarship to plan B and walked the campus today. DS disappointed, but happy to stay close to home and ok with it. More than likely will not apply again. His path has a new direction! I think we will all finally get some
Much needed sleep tonight. It has been so fun watching the forum and being a part of it all! Best to everyone and a thousand congrats to the new cadets and scholars! Upmost respect!

Did anyone else get a text message from CGA today? It was about beginning day and steps to take next? I got the text message but my daughter was only offered CGAS and this is for CGA. I'm just wondering if it was sent to me by mistake.

Don't worry all, life works out for the most part. I wanted to be a Secret Service Agent, a State Trooper, and a Special Weapons Courier (Nuclear Weapons) and ended up being a Network Security Engineering Manager.

As for my daughter, who is also an EA Deferral, has not received word yet.

Her back up plan is to go to Georgia Military College and then transfer to the Academy. GMC is recognized by the USGA for Transferring Cadets.

And all stay healthy during this unprecendented time in our life time.
Georgia Military is one of the prep schools for CGA. It is not a transfer, you go there for a year of prep then reapply for CGA. You should review the self prep appointment stats between Georgia and MMI prior to making a final decision.

I got one that just said Discover USCGA

For those waitlisted:

This is advice from Bear's Day last year given by a cadet at the USCGA.

This cadet had been waitlisted but USCGA was his dream school so he decided to do whatever he could to get off the waitlist. He was in constant communication with his Admissions Officer (AO) and he gave his AO updates about anything he could to show interest. Clearly he got in (seeing as he was a cadet when I attended Bear's Day last year) and he said he believed it was due to constantly keeping in contact with his AO.

Obviously, I cannot guarantee that this will get anyone off the waitlist, but If the Coast Guard Academy is where you want to go to school, I truly believe that it is worth following the advice of this cadet to "bother" your AO with updates and express interest. I do not know how the CGA chooses people from the waitlist but demonstrated interest is an important factor in some college admission decisions—It could help you here.

For those who received a "no":

I'm sorry—I know that this is not the news anyone was hoping for :(

The bright side, however, is that a good amount of high school graduate (current college student) applicants were admitted to the class of 2024—especially those who participated in ROTC in college.

If you are hoping to apply the class of 2025, reapplication should hopefully increase your chances of admission!

Best of luck to everyone and I hope this helps!

I just got non-CGAS waitlisted as well. Is that better than getting waitlisted for CGAS, or worse?
Depends on whether you ever get off the waitlist. There are two waitlists one for the scholars program (prep school usually called CGAS) and one for direct admission to the academy.

Does anyone know if anyone with CGAS appointments ever get moved up to a regular appointment should people drop out or do only the "wait-listed" for RA get those last minute slots?

Yes in previous years some scholar appointments are offered to academy appointments

to rephrase: are the CGAS appointees and the Wait-listers in two mutually exclusive pools where CGAS appointees have no shot at a direct appointment and those on the regular (non-CGAS) wait list have no shot at a CGAS slot?

CGAS appointees have been offered direct appointments in previous years.
I have not seen any instances where people on the regular waitlist have been offered CGAS, that is not to say it hasn’t happened just that I haven’t seen it.

We also received the text message but our DS was offered an appointment during EA so we're a little confused too.

Yes, same exact thing happened to us today. I didn’t look at it until after the Academy was closed for the day. Did your daughter call/email and receive clarification?

My daughter is many states away, nannying while school is out, and I hate for her to get even a little hopeful about the letter today being real if it was, as I suspect, just a mistake. Because I can’t give her a hug and she was good with CGAS and I know she will want to have a good cry afterwards and she can’t...her little cousins have a strict daily homeschool schedule. 100% serious about that part. No downtime for DD between 0830 and 1800 hours.

Unfortunately it was a no for me also, but I was expecting as much. You'll definitely see more of me on this forum for application to next year's class!

MMI here I come!
Pm me if you want to know more about self prep in MMI.. my DS will call you.

I didn't do anything as of yet and either has my daughter.
