Updated my daughter's status, she submitted her paperwork yesterday to accept her appointment.

We vacationed in Cape Cod last year and drove past the USCGA. That’s the closest my DS got to actually see it. It was in a beautiful setting, saw some recruits working out in the front yard.
That was not the USCGA, which is located in New London, Connecticut. You probably saw where the CG has their boot camp.

The USCGA Alumni Association hosted a Lunch and Learn zoom session with Admiral Kelly today. The class of 2025 was not the focus of the zoom session, but he said a few things that might be of interest to 2025 candidates and those who already have appointments.
1) They expect the 2025 class to be around 285.
2) As of now, I-Day is 28 June 2021.
3) At this point, he is not expecting incoming swabs to have been vaccinated when they arrive.
4) In his words, USCGA will need to "throw out" the playbook for swab summer 2019 and also for 2020. They recognize that most incoming swabs might never have been on campus which is different than most previous incoming classes.
Thanks for posting this. Any info is appreciated and is better than the crickets!

You had my heart racing for a minute. I thought the decisions were being released. 😅
The decisions are released on a rolling basis. You could find out if you’ve been accepted today, tomorrow, or as late as April.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what does #4 actually mean? Does it mean that swab summer 2021 will have a 'new look' from previous years? I would have thought 2019 was normal, 2020 a lot different (with covid protocols), and 2021 maybe somewhere inbetween. And what difference would cadets having been on campus previously (or not) have on a swab summer of any year?

(EDIT: I originally said that nobody from the class of 2025 would have attended in-person AIM. However, I wasn't thinking about reapplicants, so I have modified my wording.)

He didn't elaborate. But in the past, a large number of incoming swabs had been to in-person AIM, giving them a real taste of what SWAB summer would be like. When my daughter went to AIM, there were quite a few people she knew who said, "Nope, this is NOT for me." For the class of 2025, only reapplicants will have had the chance to attend in-person AIM. Personally, I think that might lead to more drop-outs during SWAB summer. In the past, even if kids hadn't done AIM, they may have done an overnight with another athlete or Bears Day, just to get a feel for the military aspect that comes along with attending an SA.

Swab summer 2020 was different than past swab summers because
1) They didn't get a week on the Eagle. Admiral Kelly said they planned for the Eagle to be in full operation this summer.
2) They started a week late. Pretty much the only thing they missed was their week on the Eagle.
3) They started in ROM for 2 weeks, but that was still pretty intense. That didn't mean sitting in their rooms. They were marching/running all over and getting yelled at from day 1, although the intensity level and the extra physical level went up after those 2 weeks.
4) They didn't have the typical parents activities and full day activities. Parents dropped them off by company, had a short time to see them get sworn in, a quick goodbye, and then had to leave campus for the next company to come in.
5) They obviously had to adjust in some other ways and were strict about quarantining people, but I think class of 2024 still had a full experience.

Hopefully summer 2021 won't be as restricted, but it probably won't be back to normal (as you said). I assume that is all Admiral Kelly meant, but who knows for sure.

I hope Class of 2025 at least gets to go on the eagle for swab summer

In general, this is true because classes are primarily made up of direct appointments, but reapplicants had the opportunity to attend AIM in person, and others attended in-person cadet for a day or bears day. I'm not sure how the number of accepted reapplicants will compare to previous years, but it feels higher this year due to the change of allowing of last year's waitlisted to apply EA. I suspect the higher concentration of reapplicants will decrease the potentially higher number of drop-outs over swab summer.

Yes. That's very true. Reapplicants would have had this opportunity. But overall the numbers who would have attended AIM will probably still be lower than in past years.

Sounds like they'll need to lean more on the 60+ CGAS cadets for mentoring their classmates during Swab summer.

We were lucky enough to visit a few times. It’s a very nice campus. The view of the water from down by the athletic fields is beautiful.
It really is stunning. Like I said we were in our car but we drove close enough to the actual academy and the water views were beautiful. My DS is truly hoping to be accepted, it seems like a perfect fit for him.

I received a full appointment December 20 and haven’t received the BFE yet. Should I be worried?
Did you indicate online that you'd like to move forward with the process? I think that needs to be done first.

My DD has visited twice and I’m so glad we were able to do so. She loves the campus, small class sizes, and the athletic facilities. We still have have a ways to go (she’s a sophomore in HS) but being on that campus definitely fuels the fire toward achieving that goal.
