My name is Andrew, I am currently a Junior in HS and live in Illinois. I'll be attending SLS this upcoming summer and eventually hope to be appointed to USMA. Just wanted to say hello and thank you as this forum has helped me immensely so far from only browsing around. Hopefully I can maybe find other people who are attending SLS as well.

Welcome! SLS will be great and good luck!

Whats up man? Where do you live in Illinois? Your lucky, I wish I could of attended SLS, nice choice in the academy you want to attend!

Thanks, I live in a suburb of chicago, carol stream. And I know, I mean sorry navy and air force, but army's gotcha beat lol jk

I'll be going to the first session, can't complain about taking finals early and starting summer just a bit early, that's always a plus

Quick question: Do you get to pick your session, or is that assigned?

You get to pick what session you want, but it also depends on when you get your acceptance letter. The sooner you get it the more likely you are to get the session you want and also your workshop preferences.

Hi. This is all incredibly mind-boggling to me. My name is Jenna, (yes, I am a girl) and I live in NJ-no i DO NOT fist pump-OR know the Situation.... anyways, you guys look promising, I also applied for the SLS, but I still have to take the ACT's... on Saturday. I have no idea what they are or like, what to do because I didn't expect to take them so darn early! Have any of you guys taken them? And... how long until I hear if I got accepted to the SLS?
Best Regards,
Jenna

Hey there, lol. The ACT to me is much better than the SAT. If you know some in depth math like calc or whatever you should be set, reading section is pretty easy. Science is pretty much another reading section with fancy words attached to it. English...you read excerpts of mini stories and fidn the errors within them, like punctutation, tenses, um were they just sound weird stuff like that. Its not that bad, you usually hear about SLS about 3-4 weeks after you've sent your application in. Hope that helps. Later.

Jenna - my son is also taking the ACT's on Saturday (and coincidentally, also has a girlfriend named Jenna  ).

Seriously though, we've been studying a lot and I think the biggest thing you should be prepared for is the time constraint. Know that there's no penalty for guessing, and as a very minimum, allow yourself enough time to at least guess on all questions. Go online between now and then to the actstudent.org website and just look at a few practice questions and get an idea of how long each section is and how many questions there are. If this is your first attempt, and you're going in cold, I'd recommend just guessing at any that you don't know on the first go through. Circle those numbers in your test booklet (not on your answer key) and if you have time at the end, go back and look at those some more. But guess as you go so that you're not frantically filling in bubbles with 20 seconds left.

Good luck!

thanks so much! I just wish I had more time to prepare... when I realized the SLS needed valid scores, I signed up for the earliest one possible... my test taking skills, not too good but hopefully I'll do well. Thanks again for the help.
p.s i love that Bible verse
