USMMA Visit

G-Man'sMom - I'm also from Texas (up near Sherman) with twin DS's who are current juniors. We're going to have to make the big ol' road trip to visit USMMA pretty soon! How are you splitting up the drive? Two 15 hour days? Three 10 hour days? I'm trying to figure out the logistics.

My DS just got back from his overnight visit and loved it. Would it be inappropriate for him/me to send a box of treats as a thank you? We don't want to do it if it's not a good idea.
Definitely would be appreciated by the mids who sponsored your DS. Finals are coming up soon and everyone is craving brain food and treats to hoard for late-night studying.

If he stayed with someone, especially a plebe, I'm sure they'd greatly appreciate the gift of treats...

We have his name but not his room number; do you know how I should address the package?

FYI, Plebes can have "treats" (which I am assuming you mean junk food) in their room only during finals. Finals start this weekend. But, it is all considered contraband. "Treats" outside of finals time are considered contraband and will be confiscated if found.

He is a plebe. . . would it be safe to send it say Wednesday, so he would have it by the weekend? I really don't want him getting into trouble for something we want to do as a thank you.

You can send treats that are on the 'approved' list: healthy things, no chocolate or candy type treats...things like granola/protein bars, jerky, fruit snacks and such are all good. If you PM me, I can help you out with addressing and sending the package. I have a plebe there and so glad to hear your DS connected with KP!

Perhaps you could call “Kandi King” or “Middleneck Candy Store” and ask if you can purchase gift cards. However, I do not know what plebe leave privileges are like.

Take my advice with a grain of salt. I am not a midshipmen nor do I live anywhere near KP!

That sounds about right! I guess if DS is willing to put in the work to get there, I should be willing to haul him around for visits. We've been to Annapolis 3 times, but this our first time to Kings Point. It's a 30 hour drive from Texas. I told him if he wants to visit again in the spring, I'm booking flights!
We are also from Texas. What city do you live in?
Katy. You?

We drove just about straight through. Stopped in Chapel Hill to visit my older son for a couple hours before making the final push to USMMA. It was a long haul! We had 3 drivers, so we split time. I would say take at least two days.

Success!! DS absolutely loved USMMA!! The campus is quite beautiful, and DS was duly impressed by the lab facilities. Very cool hands-on training. I think USMMA just moved to the top of his list!

So glad to hear. We had a similar experience that resulted in DS deciding that Kings Point would be his only application.

I was a bit concerned, but it all worked out and he is stressing over his first finals as I write. I had encouraged applications to all he was interested in. While he chose KP for various reasons I believe it was the smaller scale environment. Each of the service academies offers a unique and wonderful experience it just so happened that for him this was the only option.

BTW we lived about 10 minutes from Annapolis most of his life, season ticket holder for Navy FB etc. Who knew, funny how things work out.
