USNA Application Status Change: "Conditional (LOA)"

Just submitted my CFA and finally everything in my application will be done. Reading about all the LOAs in this thread, as somebody in a competitive west coast district I'm hoping to receive one too! I'm applying to MIT early as a recruit + ROTC, so an LOA would be really nice mentally to have before the early deadline. It's a bit hard to not wonder where one is lacking however, even though I understand people are saying there is no rhyme or reason... 1590 SAT 4.0 3 sports and leadership, community service involvement, sibling at the USNA, what more do they want 😭:hammer:
You have done everything you have control over, grades, SAT, sports, etc. (all amazing by the way). Now let the process work. In ten years, no one will ask if you got an LOA. Hopefully, they will hear you were appointed and graduated from USNA. Good luck to you.

DD had everything submitted including her SAT score which she ordered and got a confirmation from the college board that it was sent in June. As of today her portal is still showing incomplete due to pending SAT scores. She emailed her admissions coordinator many times and still hasn’t received an answer.
She just doesn’t know what else to do. She’s worried because LOA has already been given out to candidates and here she is still trying to find out why her SAT score hasn’t shown up on portal. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would either call Admissions or use the chat function on the Admissions page. I wouldn't think it would take that long.

Applications are in the reviewing process and candidates are receiving LOA while her portal is still showing incomplete. She’s worried.
Shouldn’t take that long. My DS sent his SAT score from Aug and it was received by USNA by late Sept.

1590 SAT! What'd you do to study?

First, I would say forget you ever read or heard mention of an LOA. Honestly. Out of your control and a process none of us can speak to.
There is one civilian examiner who enters all of the test score data per each application. They have other application responsibilities as well.
Possibly there has been a change in staff. I would suggest if possible your applicant reach out via phone or chat.

1590 SAT! What'd you do to study?
I had an early interest in competition math through a program in middle school, so the SAT math test was something I've essentially trained myself to perfect for the past 6 years, without directly studying for the SAT. For english, I used Erica Meltzer for the cheat sheet, and I've always read a lot of books as a child so reading wasn't too difficult. In my experience with my friends and their scores as well, the friends who scored 1550 or above had a trend of being voracious readers as children, often encouraged by being taken to Barnes and Noble/libaries by parents. The math is important too but I believe the consensus is that improving math score is much easier than improving reading/writing score. Once you're past 1560 ish, it honestly just comes down to the specific test, oftentimes guesswork on 1-2 questions and getting lucky, etc.

The perks of being a voracious reader. I’m so glad my parents instilled it in me and I instilled it in our kids.

This is such a great point, and I'm glad you brought it up. Once you hit these high score levels, it's time to stop testing and focus on other parts of your resume.

My DD has an LOA in the portal but I don't necessarily want her to see it. She is currently fighting an uphill waiver battle which has her extremely worried. Not sure how the LOA would help her situation.

I have access to her portal and she's at school, therefore, she hasn't seen it yet.
No problem. I did a BGO interview on Weds evening and during the prelim with the candidate and parent's, I mentioned the
portal in passing and the parents asked the candidate if he had one. . .

I'd probably be in the same boat If my daughter didn't have to deal with DoDMERB and all the AMI requests. My DD is smart, but not medical smart! The type of information they have requested REQUIRES parental intervention.

I’ve stepped in to help my DD with this process, dealing with administrative AMI. When email was necessary, I copied her. When in-person was necessary, I made her go with me. Navigating healthcare bureaucracy is frustrating for adults, let alone a teen also dealing with school, sports, and tending to plans B - Z. I’ve done my best to make sure that she has learned through the process though!

I dealt with my son’s DoDMERB portal - never saw the USNA one - for medical. He never opened the USNA one near me.

So is it strange that a parent would look in their dependent's portal? Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the waiver approval show in the portal and not DoDMERB? DD has her hands in so many moving parts, I don't feel bad about providing a 30,000ft view of everything.

No - not at all. Everybody is different - I don’t judge that. I have been accused of being a helicopter parent myself. ;)

I didn’t see his portal but did stay on top of medical dq.

His waiver approval did appear in portal first - he saw it and called me. Iirc it was also reported in medical one after.
