Anytime between September and April, and with a trickle after that. If you search for past years’ appointment threads, you can see a rough approximation of when most notifications occur.

Will a BFE be sent to appointees when they are offered an appointment, or when they accept the appointment? I've heard it can take a while for the BFE to arrive (plus I am overseas, so it'll definitely take even longer for any mail to get to me) so I just wanted to know if there's any advantage to accepting the appointment earlier instead of waiting until April/May. Haven't been appointed yet but just planning ahead :)

It is mailed out when the appointment is offered. I live in Northern Virginia and got my BFE literally 2 days after the portal update.

Well, technically his portal updated to say LOA today, but then he got the call tonight from the our House Rep. So the LOA to me, is just a placeholder status in our case, so I didn't think it merited being on there.

It just didn't resonate with the true purpose of an LOA, could be wrong and if the moderator folks think I should change it for tracking purposes I sure can.

several others have received appointments without LOA's - users 10, 14, and 18 all have "NO LOA"
I will put NO LOA, if specified, in the table from now on
 
Good evening, My DS while he was at the USNA CVW got a notification that he received an NROTC National Scholarship sent to Harvard......should he decline or say yes just in case? He has a full offer to USNA which is his first choice of the two anyways. Would it affect his USNA offer if he accepts the NROTC too? Or should he decline, not sure if he held on to it would deny someone else an NROTC offer.

He loved his CVW visit..... the cadet he stay with had his birthday Friday which it was very neat. He brought goodies to the cadets in the room. The cadet made the visit memorable for him. And he got to see snow and cold weather again after 8 years, he loved it

PS: is a National scholarship the 4 yr scholarship?
 
Both of my guys accepted their NROTC’s. ‘Ya never know what may happen with USNA ultimately. Could be an injury where they say ‘no’, but still ok with NROTC.

Lots of convo about this every year. You can search via the search function for past discussion!

Does not affect USNA if he accepts NROTC. My boys let their units know when they headed out. Scholarship won’t go to waste…

I heard you can also postpone the scholarship just in case, is that true? He is waiting on AFROTC and USAFA too to make a final decision. He did walk away from USNA very impressed, he said it was too bad USAFA doesn't do the same.

Can you accept both ROTC to AF and Navy if he was to get them, just in case?
He doesn't want to mess up academies which are his first choice

@cluelesscandidateparents, ranks, titles, word usage will be a part of your learning about the service academies and military. It can confuse but let’s get off to a good start and tweak the verbiage;). Your child stayed with a midshipman or in a room with midshipmen at the Naval Academy during his CVW, not with a "cadet" or with "cadets." Students at USAFA and West Point are referred to as “cadets.”

The media sometimes gets it wrong when referring to Midshipmen from the Naval Academy. I heard it as recently as the Army-Navy Game when the announcer said, “cadets at the Naval Academy.” The only cadets at the Naval Academy are one semester exchange students from USAFA and West Point. Posters on this thread, should they accept their appointment, and after taking the oath of office, will be part of the Brigade of Midshipmen. As individuals they will be addressed as “Midshipman.” Examples: Midshipman Door; in correspondence, Midshipman 4/C W.T. Door. It does have a nice ring to it, don’t you think? Have fun sorting it all out so that you can precisely speak about your child, a future Midshipman.
 
A recipient of an appointment to a SA and or a ROTC scholarship can accept them without reprisal. When one shows up IDAY the other options fall away.

Our son had offers to USMA, USNA and USMMA and a 4 year NROTC. He accepted the NROTC and slept on the other options.

As soon as he made HIS decision he emailed all offers and points of contact and let them know his decision so that opportunities for others may or may not be opened for others.

USCGA cadets also do exchanges at USNA - USMMA has midshipmen - all good Service Academy 101 info here. ✅
 
My admissions counselor informed me this morning that I have received an appointment to USNA :jump1: !!! He said that it'll take a few days or weeks for the FQO to show up in my portal, but according to him, I definitely have an offer now!
