It varies from year to year....it kind of depends on how the class is shaping up, how many open offers there are and other factors. Based solely on my observations on SAF and my group of candidates (ie. no official word), I suspect that it may be a little larger this year if there are a number of unresolved medical issues, ie. , someone will be on the waitlist if a waiver doesn't come through

Yes and No -- the waitlist is not "ranked", and I have observed one for one replacements when someone declines an apppointment, but I have also observed no change if an appointment is declined. Admissions builds in some factor for declined appointments, so there is not necessarily a one for one correlation.

Bottom line -- there is very little benefit to trying to figure out how big the waitlist is, or how it works. It is all part of the building the class process, and you are still in the game....
 
Being on the waitlist is a whole other level of emotions for the parents and the applicants. Two of the hardest days last year for my daughter were Senior Awards where they recognized students who received appointments to all academies and then graduation day where they also made a special announcement at commencement. She received her offer of appointment on May 25 last year, 3 days after graduation.

It could be days, weeks or 2 months, but YOU made it this far and to that you need to celebrate! You have a whole big cheering section for you, including me. If anyone needs a friend, reach out, I’m here.

Just wanted to pop over and say Woo Hoo and Congrats to all the waitlisters over here!! Sounds like a great group of WLers were pretty successful last year, and I hope the same for you or your DD or DS. Rooting for great news on the horizon for all!
 
I'm pretty sure DS is going to deny his USNA appt and accept his USMA. But the way I read this is that even if he denies his USNA appt, which was a congressional appt, that wouldn't necessarily go to the number 2 person in our CD? If so, that's wild.

Just wanted to pop in and wish all the WL candidates the best of luck . DD was waitlisted around this time last year and we heard on May 19th that she was selected for Foundation which she is finishing up now . Please try to concentrate on all the once in a lifetime memories coming up : graduation, prom, ceremonies and parties . That was the best advice we took off this forum this time last year when our nerves were getting frayed . Back away from the portal and forums and focus on enjoying time with family and friends . You got this !
