USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

USNA is my #1, and then my plan B is USCGA. You?
USNA is also DS's #1 because he would like to follow his role model's footsteps, a navy captain (retired, USNA class 1990). But he is getting warmer and and warmer with West Point in the process after he met some great army officers who supported him with his CFA. Also he has been frequently contacted by current West Point cadets --- So now he just wants to hear from USNA's decision -- TWE would be fine, he will join the army and never look back at USNA -:)

My DS - exact same. The wait for USNA with WP appointment in hand and lots of positive outreach has changed his thinking over time. But he can’t bring himself to pull the trigger on a final decision until he hears from USNA. So we are just in limbo.

Not complaining, but Army is definitely rolling on the welcome wagon more than Annapolis. I have heard that one of the reasons West Point has a tougher time is due to the fact that have less applicants, and their CFA standards are higher. So recruiting/outreach has to be more of a full court press. Don't know this as fact, but numbers and feedback on physical standards seem to support this.

same happened to me, admissions told me they saw my transcript in my file but it has still been unchecked for weeks
I verbally confirmed for my DS (not as helicopter mom, only because he didn’t have access to computers or cell phone as deadline approached). I received verbal confirmation… then about two weeks ago he received an email from admissions regarding transcripts. Shortly after, admissions confirmed they have them. But still no check box.

Could use some

Very true on CFA, DS passed USNA CFA like a piece of cake. He had to work for 4 months to pass West Point CFA. His LOA was extended for two months. Certainly West Point really wanted him. The support of CFA was great at an army base.

I really don't know if it is official West Point policy, but definitely see that the local West Point Field Force Officers (ie. BGO's) are much more "recruiting" oriented than BGO's. My local counterpart was way more hands on, almost hand holding through the process than I am .

Add this to the tea leaves….As all you CPR’s are ‘waiting and speculating’, my DS (college re-app ~ ‘27 Naps waitlist TWE) is still waiting for college transcript box to be checked. Admissions has confirmed verbally and through email the transcripts have been received. To add an additional leaf, he is the principal. We went the distance last year ….. all they way into June, so this is nothing knowing he is doing amazing at his plan B. Have to admit last year ~ Senior year was emotionally exhausting.
We are right there with you. Naps waitlist TWE in june too. DD is still pending this year. Good Luck to you!

Does anyone know how/why multiple candidates from a nomination slate are offered appointments? I have been reading around on the forums and it is challenging my understanding that only 1 candidate from each nomination slate can be accepted to USNA.

One candidate can be CHARGED to the slate. People often have multiple sources of nominations, so you could have multiple people from one area that happen to be on the same slate selected.

Also, if a candidate is strong, but beaten out by another, anyone with a nom can be placed/ranked on the national waitlist. I'm not 100% sure how that works, but there is some sort of allocation of those people to discretionary appointment sources (SECNAV, Superintendent, VP, etc.) which are at the Academy's choice.

Also, each MoC can have 5 people assigned to them at any given time. It could be that they are only "charged" with one or two during that cycle that are currently at USNA, allowing the Academy to select more than one that year.

It's all a big +/-1300 piece puzzle. ;)

DS portal changed from “pending” to “turned down” today. We didn’t receive an email yet but know it’s bad news. DS has taken it well, he’s determined to re-apply next year and apply himself to improving the areas of his application that he can. Proud of him! Good luck to all! Go Navy!!

Sounds like you have a lot to be proud of. Best wishes for your DS on his path.

Tough one! Sorry to hear about this. They seem to handle it much better than we do. Good luck!

You and your son are both awesome!! You’ve handled this with such aplomb and humility and I know that with this kind of attitude, commitment and dedication, that he will end up at USNA if that remains his goal! Best wishes for a productive year and I hope to see ya at I-day in the future (Class of ‘29!!!:) Go Navy!
Ps. Oh and check out some good posts from last year on how to navigate the reapplication process. It was super helpful to my DS! We are still waiting on his fate this year; if he doesn’t get it this year, I’m sure he’ll be back at it again this year!
Good luck!!!!:)

Sorry to hear --- just wonder what kind TWE letter they will send to ? I hope it will point out some area of improvement, particularly to re-applicants.
DS has been pending over three months -- rolling admission should be rolling acceptance + rolling rejection. Either way will be a relief

From my DS’s experience last year, that Turned Down in the portal was all we got. He wanted the letter to keep as fuel to push himself a bit (I felt like it would’ve been a great keepsake given the magnitude of it and the changes it brought him too…really great stuff). I agree and feel like that this year again. Waiting isn’t easy and since he first applied to summer seminar we’ve been going on two years waiting on Navy. It’s that big though and worth the effort and challenge and wait ultimately! I wish all of you all the best! Keep up the hope whether you get in this year or not; you can apply until you turn 23!!!:)

I am so sorry to hear. I am glad to see he is taking it well and is going to try again though, that determination is great!
