USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Sorry to hear --- just wonder what kind TWE letter they will send to ? I hope it will point out some area of improvement, particularly to re-applicants.
DS has been pending over three months -- rolling admission should be rolling acceptance + rolling rejection. Either way will be a relief
It’s a generic form letter. For those that receive a TWE, let the admissions cycle settle, then reach out to your AO for an appointment. Many will give feedback on areas to improve.

DS portal changed from “pending” to “turned down” today. We didn’t receive an email yet but know it’s bad news. DS has taken it well, he’s determined to re-apply next year and apply himself to improving the areas of his application that he can. Proud of him! Good luck to all! Go Navy!!
I’m so sorry to hear this! However, like the others said, you and your son are a great example of the best possible attitude to have when receiving disappointing news. Thank you for sharing with us (and reminding us!). Best of luck to your son!!

100% agree with this. Has your admissions POC for a debrief. Be patient since they are still in the midst of the cycle. Ask hard questions, the kind that might make you have to face some shortfalls. Use it as fuel if you intend to reapply.

Ask your admissions POC. Typo.

You are correct. If you are a first time applicant and appointed, then you are a direct. Congratulations
As per page 1 of USNA Class of 2028 Offers of Appointment Self-Updating List, below are the categories:
/via NAPS, Foundation prep, self-prep, college re-applicant or applicant, direct appoint from HS, enlisted, re-appointment

So I guess, college applicant can say direct with additional tag - ie. direct from college.

Just to have distinction between direct from HS vs direct from college.

Anyone have any ideas why there aren't many appointments going out this week?
There could have been hundreds of appointments that went out this week. Just none that were posted or talked about on this site. The candidates on this forum that might post about getting a appointment are but a fraction of the total. There is still alittle over a month before the final deadline. The end is getting close. Patience is hard I know. Look at the brightside. You are learining valueable lessons in patients and perceverance that will be invaluable at a SA or your plan B

Yes, like I’ve said a lot of times, the admissions board isn’t done going through all the congressional districts yet, hence until that happens, a good chunk of people won’t hear about appointments. USNA seems like the least-heard-from academy this year, but the most amount of days until you hear back is 31 days, or it could be less. If it helps ease your mind I guess you could ask your MOC if USNA has given any appointments to any kids in your district just to see if they’ve been there already

Anyone out there from DE that had heard yet? My son's still says "pending" and we know some others from DE that haven't heard yet but just curious! I think this is just as hard on all of us parents as it is for the kids! One month to go I suppose!

It is a form letter, USNA Admissions cannot give individual feedback to candidates. It is hard truth that USNA Admissions is very competitive, and a lot of very good candidates get a TWE, often to no fault of their own other than the fact that the person who won the slate was even better.

Their is a process in place, and it includes "rolling" admissions and rejection, but it is important to understand that much of the "rolling" occurs after February 1 when all candidates must have their application in and MOC have their nominations in. There have been many posts on SAF explaining the process -its not like most colleges where one body , aka the Admissions Board can make a decision on the spot -- there are many variables at play, including medical qualifications, nomination, and Noms and Appointments determine the slate winner. There is a reason USNA Admissions states "most" will know by April 15 ...any expectation beyond that is simply self created.
