USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

sometimes i say "to serve my country" as a way to be "professional" but in reality it's because becoming a marine, enlisted or officer, is hella cool
Hell yeah! And that’s more than enough reason to do it. Why do you think recruiting ads only post the cool stuff? Because that’s what makes people wanna join!

Well Blinkus if you really are committed to becoming a Marine I (and maybe @ARMARINE03 and @Capt MJ can corroborate) would HIGHLY recommend picking up wrestling. They are one of the highest recruited demographics out of highschool and for good reason.

3 Time NCAA Champion and Olympic World Champion (Without anyone scoring A POINT ON HIM) Dan Gable once said that once you've wrestled, everything in life is easy. It seriously is one of the best things you can do to get that Marine Mindset and Mental Fortitude
Wrestling is up there, will definitely give it a shot! Football has also helped a lot with Marine Mindset in my opinion. Learning to play a role in a team, doing what you can to win games. I think Football and Wrestling is definitely up there!

Thank you so much and good luck to your son.
My DS wants to give it everything he has and apply one more time!!

One question is , after HS and one semester into college, where would my DS get recommendations from since he is already done with HS. His college professors will have only known him for a few months in before writing the recs...
It was tough actually! An excellent question!:) he lined up one college professor then they flaked out three days before it was due; luckily he had great senior HS teachers so he got those in. Must use your senior year English and math teacher (or if you can convince a college professor but it’s a hard sell). Please keep asking questions now and throughout the process and I’m happy to help! If he doesn’t get USMMA appointment then he might be back at this next year! USNA ‘29!:)

Well my DS is TD; before Wednesday at 2pm it said Pending Review Withdraw. You are still in it!;) it’ll go Complete ( instead of Pending) if you are getting an appointment; if it’s a Turned down, then it’ll go directly from Pending to Turned down! Good luck all and Go NAVY!!:)
Thank you for sharing. I hope your son continues to strive for more dreams and goals. So many incredible humans involved in this process they will do amazing things.

Still pending with a DQ in NY as of just now ... no waiver action initiated to date. Would have thought that meant a TWE long ago! But we'll be grateful to survive at least another day (well, as long as I don't check again today - anyone care the guess the odds on that??). Good luck everyone!

Did anyone get any news from New York? Or are we all still waiting?
Still pending NY -19....

Ask anyone who's done both and you'll find the same answer across the board...

In the two or so months left before Plebe Summer? Not much time to absorb very much about wrestling in that time. When I was a mid, we had wrestling in PE during Plebe Summer and Youngster Year.

In wrestling (for me at least), it's not about the technique it teaches you, but its about the intense strength cardio and agility training, the mental strength you develop, and the lessons it teaches you about yourself

If there was one piece of advice I could broadcast to everyone on the earth, it would be simple:

Just Wrestle.

Have to say for those looking to become Marines @blinkus , the book Gates of Fire is top of list. Our DS was given it from an SEL while locked down for 38 days during plebe summer. We read it at the same time. Mind blowing.

I’ve read it again since then. Got more out of it the second time.

If I didn’t know better I would have thought it was written 1000 years ago.

I would have to agree with this. Both of my guys did both. Teamwork present in both. But a lot more self discipline and self sacrifice in wrestling. Beyond the brute physicality of it.

Is it safe to assume that if we’re still pending at this point that we’re kinda out of luck?
