USNA Class of 2029 Waiting, Speculating, Hoping

Just got a nomination from my senator today. I'm honestly surprised, I thought I did bad because the 2 gentlemen interviewing me seemed unimpressed. Praying for an offer of appointment!
Congratulations!

Fingers crossed for that appointment now!

Just curious how appointments happen - do they come via email, US mail, phone call… I think that covers it?

In the portal now, I think accompanied with an email saying a change in their portal. Someone more recently versed in this can confirm. Things have changed yearly it seems.

That's after giving a grace period of a few days to allow local MoCs to call and congratulate. But not all MoC offices do that. My kid did not get a call.

Awful quiet out there. IIRC at this time last year appointment list was at 15-20 ish. Obviously, this is a self-reporting board so you can't objectively measure anything but I have to say way more crickets than this same time last

In DS's case...
  • Call from MOC
  • Portal changed a few days later
  • BFE couple months later
  • No email indicating an appointment
What month did he receive the beautiful BFE?💌

What month did he receive the beautiful BFE?💌
It was late May or early June. He received his offer of appointment Mar 21. Then I remember it was a couple months later because it made it to us not long before his grad party.

When does the LOA change to an FQO? DS met his conditions of his LOA which was his nomination. Nomination was updated in the portal about 2 weeks ago but still says LOA. He keeps checking his portal waiting for it to say "appointment" or whatever it is supposed to say where it says "LOA"

Busy time of year. And, they typically give the MoC a chance to make the call if the office does that. See my post a few steps above ^^^.

He's done all the work, just be patient for the change and the happy dance can begin. Have him enjoy the holiday season and work on staying in shape and fully sat(isfactory).

The ready room deserves a musical interlude too, since I dropped one in the appointments thread.

Something from one of my favorite drum lines to lift the spirits and infuse energy into The Endless Wait - the Top Secret Drum Corps at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I first saw them at the Tattoo about 10 years ago. The Tattoo is a bucket list item for me. The Tattoo is a tremendous showcase of pipe bands, marching bands, drum corps, etc. The massing of the pipes at the end is a goosebumper.

Oh heck, here’s the Massing. No microphones needed. Blows your hair back with the sound.

Just a quick musical interlude to take your mind off things.

Looks like Santa’s sleigh is loaded with USNA appointments given the surge of posters today.

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

Keep those appointment posts going over there!
Go Navy, Beat Army!

Come on USNA Appointments....I see 11 posted for 6 Dec 24, let's go for a bakers dozen!!

Congrats to all!! Go Navy! Beat Army!

It is, but could be this way until late April or early May.
I was just thinking they should pack a lunch, because it can be a looonngg vigil at the laptop. I don’t say this lightly or with meanness; the candidate has done well to get everything in. Now it’s a matter of discipline to focus on what they can control. Check portal once a day then go live your life. Tend the alternate plans. Go PT. Live in the here and now.

And no matter how good you look on paper, who you think your competition is, when you got your app in, how well your BGO told you that you did in your interview, how well your interviews with nom sources went, who has LOA’s, etc, etc, etc…..no matter ALL of that? You wait to hear until around the middle of April. Or later. 4 months. A quarter of a year. That’s what USNA publishes as their goal for letting you know.

Pack a BIG lunch. And apps and desserts.

Also not being cynical, but that’s the reality.

Seriously you will do better mentally to focus on the rest of your amazing senior year, and go ahead and get excited about your alternate plans. Plan your down. Pick your roomates. Go to a game. Get a sweatshirt. Move on. Don’t wait to hear about an appointment or not. Be pleasantly surprised if it pops into your life. You won’t miss anything by not checking your portal daily.

Good luck to everyone. I understand the wait, my ‘24 was pulled from the waitlist middle of May. He had moved on. It allowed him to be fully present and appreciate the time he had left with his classmates he had been with for 13 yrs.

4 more months to go!!!
