I am sorry your child hasn't heard anything yet from NROTC. That is a double bummer! I wish your family good news soon!!

I need to get off this Forum, because I am spreading negativity. My child actually has great college options that he is bouncing around the house about, so I am not sure what is wrong with me! But, I guess I was kind of irritated all year, because the USNA process was compounded by a Regional Director and B&G Officer who never responded to my child's calls/emails, which were just 2-3 all year. Funny how admissions counselors at private colleges that receive 30,000-40,000 applications were able to respond to him within the same day when he had questions, but USNA, with just 19,000 apps, of which only about 25% of those were "real" apps with noms, ignored his communications. I guess that should have been a sign.

First, please don't worry about negativity. All (constructive) views are welcome on these forums.

Second, the situation with your child's BGO is unfortunate. BGOs are volunteers and some, quite frankly, are better than others. If you truly believe that your child was done a disservice, you can contact your Area Coordinator (the "supervisor" of BGOs) and vent your frustration. While annoying and inexcusable, the lack of contact probably wasn't a determinative factor.

RDs have literally thousands of candidates assigned to them, which can make individual responses difficult. I'm not making excuses, but they are probably overwhelmed. It is unfortunate that they, who are most knowledgeable about a candidate's situation (much more so than the BGO) are so overtaxed. Very unfortunate.

The ring alone can only take you so far. Best of luck to your S during his next two years and his future in the Navy.

After the first TWE did you inquire about the areas in his application that he needed to improve? I ask because a TWE arrived hear as well and was told via email that there were no weaknesses in my S's application. That seems like a contradiction. A denial must be preceded by some weakness unless they use a coin flip to determined appointments.

I am sure admissions only uses the ceremonial coin for special circumstances. But yes we discussed 1st year app with admissions, the message was continue to work hard and do well in college plebe like classes. DS did, and it didn't work out.....their choice, their rules, and truth be told they have a pretty darn good track record of success

I'm speechless... thats an amazing resume. I received my TWE for the first time, and this seriously makes me want to reconsider my first plan of reapplying. Good luck to you and your DS.

AFAApplicant you are just beginning your journey, do not let the experiences of others stop you from achieving your goals and dreams. Playing the "what if" game is not fun. One thing is certain, you will not get an appointment if you don't re-apply!

Hey at least your BGO didnt move to Guam without telling you!

Many will be proud

DS received TWE, record perfect 2 for 2. His USNA road is over. Class of 2016 application is not an option. He loves his school/NROTC Battalion and will have 82 credit hrs end of sophomore year (IB and summer college credits). With great education and NROTC he will succeed in fulfilling his dream of becoming an US Navy Officer and Aviator.

I guess sometimes things just don’t work out. Year 2 app followed advice of SAF sticky note “reapplying” and without question was stronger than last year. Strong ACT score, 2 noms, great grades (all A’s one B) in plebe like classes , ranked second NROTC, after HS career #1 rated 4 yr IB school in US, class president, 8 varsity letters blah blah blah…..just like all the incredible SA applicants.

We respect the USNA admissions process and understand their task is incredibly difficult and ultimately gut wrenching for many. DS was over qualified for NAPS (2yrs), and knows he successfully completed a very rigorous college academic year hoping to prove worthy of an appointment. Without belaboring the perceived and often discussed admission issues which continue to befuddle many, we just are just plain old fashioned disappointed. Was TWE due to bad timing, wrong area, not competitive, wrong background…appointment reduction for re-applicants… bottom line DS re-application just wasn’t good enough to earn an appointment this year. Which is OK, he did his best and that is all anyone can ask. It is what it is, time to continue moving forward. We are very proud of DS, he is living and loving plan B….actually plan A since last year TWE.

For all who received TWE, be proud of your accomplishment, look forward, embrace and make the best of all of your opportunities.

I want to sincerely thank this forum, moderators and fellow posters for the excellent advice over the past few years. SAF is a great library of information and a good source for a few laughs, support and tears.

Good luck to all, especially the TWE’ers and the Class of 2015 appointees and beyond.

Our country is in great hands with all of our amazing kids!

GO BLUE!!!!
My nephew still has not heard anything, (NC) but I do know one thing. If he gets the TWE, his plan B is his NROTC scholarship, and I know he would be most honored to serve with your son! The USNA is nephew's first choice, and NROTC is second. Why? His end goal is a career in the NAVY. He and your son will get there one way or the other and this country will be proud to have such fine young men like them serving in our NAVY. :thumb: SO YES! GO BLUE!

Hey at least your BGO didnt move to Guam without telling you!

for my interview, my BGO had me watch an 80's USNA video cassette (i think her only experience with usna was that her niece applied), after that she cruised through the actual interview in under 3 minutes. (i hope her interview didn't count for much in the application haha...) Her bad impression and my usafa AlO's good impression helped me solidify my choice on usafa

Wayull, USNA TWE arrived for VVCFF on Saturday. She is mailing in her acceptance to USAFA this week. Its bittersweet, because she is thrilled to be going to USAFA, but saddened that she won't join DS in Annapolis.

What a shame

Seeing these fine individuals turned away, (and I am sure that fine individuals are selected) makes me wish that the NAVY would just do it this way. Don't put down your color or sex, or nationality, or ethnic background. MAKE ALL APPLICANTS Equal in that regard. THEN CHOOSE the best and the brightest. ONLY THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST.

What a mess the selection process is now. Good luck to all!

DS received his TWE today April 4 in MS. He did everything he could but didn't make the cut. Good luck to all of the Class of 2015. Still hoping for a NROTC but if not we will move on. When one door closes, one opens somewhere else. God Bless. Nahum1:7

Wait-listed here in TN. I'm still waiting on word for NROTC and I've got some good backups though, so it's not the end of the world I guess.

Got the TWE in SoCal on Saturday. Dated 3/30. Not going to lie, it does sting, but the world didn't end and neither will my dream for the academy. Off to Maine Maritime for me and a reapplication coming. They aren't getting rid of me that easy.

Nothing where I am again. My bgo tells me to not give up just yet, that I still have a fighting chance. However, I'm almost considering admitting defeat completely. I feel as if there is no chance for a BFE at all, naps or appointment directly, I haven't hear of one in a while.
