What are my chances?

Hello everybody! My name is William, and I was merely inquiring what every else thinks of my chances are at being accepted into the Naval Academy. I've had an interest in the Academy since I was in the 8th grade, and I am currently in the 10th. I haven't always been the best students, I've always made high B's, and A's my entire life, my GPA has been rising to a 3.87, but this is indeed not where I want it to be, I strive for better. I've also played Divison 1 soccer for a club, and been a captain for two of those years while playing Varsity soccer for five, and being a captain for three. I recently obtained my Eagle rank in Boy Scouts, and I served as the Assistant/Senior Patrol Leader for two years (highest positions of responsibility). I've been part of my school's student council for several years, and I am currently enrolled in two Pre AP classes (History and English), and advanced math. I don't intend for this to be any way of me bragging of my accomplishments, in case anyone got that impression, I've just had such a passion to attend the Academy, and I am hoping to see the honest opinions of others, and see if they have any suggestions on what I should work on. Thanks!

The honest opinion is that no one on this forum can “chance you” with any reliable accuracy. We can say that you look pretty good on paper: upward trajectory on academics, looking to take AP courses, leadership, athletics. All good. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Your test scores, of course. Your course rigor and school profile. Whether or not you made a leadership impact, not just held a title. Your essays and BGO interview. Your CFA scores. Your DODMERB results.

A lot of moving parts, so just keep moving forward. Look up USNA’s Class of 2022 profile and see how you stack up. Check your motivations, to ensure you’re considering the active-duty obligation and not just the glitz and glamour of USNA. And work on Plan B, C, D.... Best wishes to you.

OP-- You have many of the characteristics that USNA is looking for, but nobody here can "chance you." USNA gets many applicants with the same tickets as you, and alot depends on who else is competing from your state and district in a given year.

My advice would bet to continue on the path you are headed; take (and excel) in your schools most strenuous academic program (especially STEM AP classes), seek out leadership opportunities (and achieve something, don't chase titles), and stick with sports. Keep your nose clean (don't do anything stupid), and rock the SAT/ACTS.

PS. Congratulations on Eagle Scout ... I am of course biased, but of all your accomplishments recited above, that one carries a lot of weight with me. I tell my Candidates that being an Eagle Scout doesn't give you a free pass .....but the tools you have received through Scouting will help your achieve whatever you want in life.

Best of Luck ..

0% if you don't apply

Only costs time and effort to apply.

What are your goals? Serve as a Naval Officer , ok or a Marine Officer? Free College? Attending a prestigious school?

Have a plan B, C, D, E, F....

If the Corps of Cadets experience is what you desire the Senior Military Colleges will provide that with varying levels of 'spartanness' from VMI and Citadel on the very spartan end to A&M, Norwich or Va Tech.

Free college , well freeish, can be had via NROTC scholarship

If you want to go to sea there are also USMMA and USCGA

How does a 10th grader 'playing Varsity soccer for five'?

Agree with the comments above. I hope you have more than an interest in attending the academy, and that in fact, your passionate about serving in the active duty Navy. Besides looking at the academy web sites, review the jobs available in the Navy and perhaps get a sense of the things you'd like to do. Hopefully there is more than one thing, because one doesn't always get their first choice in the military.

Good luck. Hope your dream comes true. It can with hard work and focus.
