At this point my son has decided to withdraw his applications from the USNA and the USAFA. He is not saying "no" forever just for the class of 2023. He wants to makes sure he does this the right way so that he doesn't hurt any chances of reapplying. He was going to log on to the USNA portal and hit "withdraw", email his BGO and thank him and let him him know he would be withdrawing at this time, the same for the USAFA. Is there anything else he should do/know? Thank you.

It wouldn't hurt to send a note to his Regional Director saying that he has decided to withdraw his application for this year. Best of luck to him!

+1 to @usna1985, and if and when DS reapplies next year, be ready with a good explanation for why he withdrew and is applying again. Withdrawing isn’t a bad thing, but USNA and USAFA interviewers will want assurance that the commitment to attend and eventually serve is genuine. (And if there’s a compelling story behind the withdrawal, it may say something very positive about DS and help boost his case.) Best wishes to him.

Thank you all so much. I know my son has some deep soul searching to do before he makes this decision. He knows in his gut what he has wanted for a long time and worked so hard for.
