But he was with you, and that’s all that counted for him.15 years ago our dog died. She was a great dog - a big dumb lab that was as calm as could be until a stranger got near our kids - but she had a tumor we didn't know about that cut her life short. One of the hardest things I have had to do is to come home from the vet and tell the kids she was gone. Our kids were young then and begged for a new dog. We finally gave in and got a rescue lab mix mutt. Shortly after we got him we noticed some issues and brought him to the vet. Turned out that he had several health issues and allergies and the vet warned us that he would not have a long life. We agreed early on not to go to extreme and costly measures to keep him going, but would pay for whatever routine daily meds the dog needed to be comfortable. At first our hope was that he would live long enough for the kids to be old enough to deal with it. Then it was to have him live long enough for them to finish high school...then college.
Yesterday we had to put him down. He made 15 years and was a good dog. I'm going to miss him...
I think you are mistaken. This is the reincarnation of Kaiser Wilhelm. Be careful.Went to visit the grandsons on the day the new Fortnite season came out. They were too busy beating a bunch of Randos to pay me any attention so my old buddy Bill snuggled up next to me.

@Heatherg21, here ya go.. This is my pooch Gunnar.. He's a one year old standard Dachshund [referred to by kids everywhere as a 'wiener dog']I love this thread. Just like the reverent bacon thread. Makes me happy. A great segue when threads get political or heated, good therapy when my heart is heavy or tired.
Keep the posts coming.
He is a handsome fella'. Thank you!@Heatherg21, here ya go.. This is my pooch Gunnar.. He's a one year old standard Dachshund [referred to by kids everywhere as a 'wiener dog']

Gunnar is a good boy for sure.. and he does indeed have a lot of heart.. I have to remind him periodically that he may be German but he isn't a German Shepherd.. As the AKC standard says the Dachshund is 'courageous to the point of rashness' and any display of shyness is considered a serious fault.I grew up with two black and tan shorthairs.
Big dog hearts in unintentionally funny bodies. Total smugglers.
Handsome boy, and clearly a Good Boy.
BUSTER also appears to be patriotic! Good boy Buster.Buster is on better and more expensive pain meds than I, plus I'm sharing the heating pad with him. We got a foot of snow and at age 14 he's still jumping in and out of snow drifts. He jumped out of one and onto the street yesterday and limped back home. He has more ambition than intelligence at this point.

Wife decorated in Americana before it was cool, pre-9/11. I'm surrounded by flags, anchors, and a photo of the Iwo Jima flag raising. To go along with multiple photos of the grand kids of course.BUSTER also appears to be patriotic! Good boy Buster.
