March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

Suggested to DS last night he ask first choice school about remaining scholarships/number awarded etc. He declined said he already knew someone with the answers. Ah, "The Guy with cattle on a thousand hills?," I asked. Love it when my kids have more faith than I do.

Time to liquidate some cows:shake:

:yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol::thumb: Makes me giggle...mine too. I think they have hollow legs.

Mine found out he was "small" for his 5 10" frame at only 145lbs...he drinks choc-protine-creatine milk now with every workout. 5 p/b/j's for lunch and one meal that starts at 3pm and goes until he passses out after midnight. Yeah, he did gain some muscles weights in now @ 170 solid -- can't wait until this boy in on a meal plan and off my grocery list:thumb:

wow, watching the laughing out loud heads spin was making me dizzy....long day. gotta go guys.

Knew I was in trouble

When my DS asked for some toast. I asked how many pieces and DS said what's ever in the bag. Don't think you want 11 pieces. Sure do he says and that was for an afternoon snack!

Re: 3-yr. Scholarship award:

Is the service obligation the same 8 years, or does it reduce with a smaller scholarship award to, say 6 years?

Does a 3-yr. Scholarship awardee still have the same available paths at commissioning -- i.e. AD, Reserves, or Guard?

What determines if you get a 4 year scholarship or 3 year

I think it varies on the kid...mine has not received one yet but the ROO said he would be a candidate for a 3 year. My guess is it's because he is a slow runner and they may want to have him prove himself academically...Good HS grades but SATS were not stellar. Just a guess that his stats show him to have potential, but not quite a guarantee for success on paper. Maybe Clarkson or someone can give you specifics, because its only my speculation.

Even though his tuition is ridiculous, pay back will come in the room and board!!

Good question, I believe the obligation is the same but I never really asked.

A 3 yr Scholarship awardee has the exact same opportunities as a 4 yr awardee, they just start getting the scholarship a year later.

One thing to keep in mind regarding the 3 yr AD scholarship. The cadet will need to make sure they participate in all ROTC classes, labs, PT, and activities their freshman year. Don't get hurt to a point you become dodberb disqualified. Do not get into any trouble, no MIP's, no speeding tickets over $249.00 fine, and you will need the recommendation of he PMS before the 3 yr scholarship takes effect. For the great kids repesented on this board that should be no problem at all.

DS has been through both Boards and was not awarded (or denied). However, after the first Board he was approved for DoDMERB in December, which he passed. Has anyone else been DoDMERB approved and not received an offer?

I'm the exact opposite of this situation

Results?

Does any one know when the results from Today's board will be posted? Sorry if it has already been answered. Just got in and didn't have time to check!

It will be at the very least 3 weeks, could be longer if the Jan. board was any indication.

Good Luck everyone.

Wait, what? You mean the March 8 Board doesn't let you know on March 8??? :welcome1: to this reality!

However, I have it on good authority that if you check the online status 7 times per day for 21 days, while throwing salt over your LEFT shoulder, while hopping on one foot, and simultaneously shouting "I am not worthy!", the answer will appear on the 22nd day. I also have it on good authority that if you press the elevator button repeatedly, the car arrives faster.

These are the times that try men's souls. And us Mom's too. Yes waiting is my pastime this year. I used to have a life. I don't know what happened to it, but its gone. I sit on SAF learning more and more and where is the one this all pertains to? Baseball practice..with friends..having a great time being a Senior. And yes..I wouldn't change a thing. Except maybe the length of the WAIT:biggrin:

hopefull

Not sure if it is a good sign or not, being this the day of the last board, but our DS received 2 phone calls today from two of his schools on his list. Spoke with each for about 1/2 hour. What are your thoughts on this? :thumb: or

Without knowing what the conversation was about, it is always a good thing when the ROTC units call to talk. It is way to soon for them to know whether your son has received an offer but the fact they made contact means they are interested in your son. Believe me not all ROTC units take the time to contact you.

My son was contacted by 3 of the schools on his list before the first board, they had long conversations about the programs over several phone calls. Remember that even if your son does not receive an offer from cadet command there is always a chance for a campus based scholarship if funds and space are available. Contact with the ROTC programs will keep your son's name upfront with them and convey his interest in the program.

My son received an offer to 5 schools on the first board, he showed the most interest in the schools that made the effort to contact him and selected one of those schools.

While the phone calls may not be able to indicate that an offer will be made it sure helps set him up with other options that might be available if one is not.
