Still in the game

I have always known how competitive the process is yet I find myself stunned by these TWEs. It has to be numbers in the district but I would be curious to see what stats "won."

Thinking of you guys and your terrific kids. I wish they could all have what they earned.

My DS called MOC office just before TWE arrived and was told a soccer recruit and an LOA had received an appt. Not sure of stats though.

Received the TWE today. I'm taking it better than I expected. Still at a complete loss though. 3.99 Unwghtd GPA, 690-Math 650-Crit Reading, every honors and AP course high school offers, perfect medical, killed the CFA(running only weak spot), two sport Team Captain, 4-year Class President, 30+ volunteer hours, part time job, tutor, etc. I just don't know...

On to Plan B, I guess. I'll start reapplication once everything is tied up with Plan B. Thank you all for the love and care and support through these long months. Good luck to all!

So sorry MiddyB-- your stats sound impressive. I'm sure you have a perfect plan already in place. I wish you all the luck in what no doubt will be a stellar future!

Holding the TWE in my hands.

Thanks to everyone for the all support throughout the process. Looks like Coast Guard is the way to go for me. :)

Mail came. Still in the game. 10 more days to go here in Norfolk, Va. God Bless every candidate still waiting and those with TWEs. See you Monday.

No waitlist, not a surprise, DS was expecting it but I know it still stings. He is excited about his NROTC adventure so we will move forward. In a couple weeks we will discuss reapplying. Now is not the time.....

Good luck to those still on the island. All the best!

And the day has started. I'm typically excited for the mail to come. Yesterday and today not so much.

Prayers for those of you who are disappointed today. Take some time to morn... Then get stinking excited and head on into your future knowing you did all you can and no envelope determines your worth, ability, or future success.

I was thinking about why some candidates make it while ones with stellar and even more competitive Stats do not. I wonder if the intent is for diversity in every sense of the word. I also had a Navy guy here tell my DD after her congressional interview to not stress to much about our lack of military involvement (she was feeling low as all of the other interviewees were Military kids etc. ..) that the Academy new exactly how many of each type of candidate they wanted.

Stats are probably the majority of the decision process but not all.

hopefull for all

There with you, navymom and the rest. So so so sorry this incredible journey has come to this end.

How can looking at the return address of one envelope say so many things and cause such incredible emotions?

Thank you especially to vista123; her helpful insight and suggestions helped put DS in such a great position to earn Plans A2&3.

Thank you to the moderators and veterans that help guide us and answer or questions and sooth our anxieties. And thank you to the other Illinoisans that have become kindred spirits along the way.

Best of luck to those still on the island and those that are catching their boats to the great adventures to come.

So sorry to hear about your TWE, Middy B. You have great stats and great heart. this is such a cruel numbers game you need to remember that. I am sure there are many factors that contribute to why one candidate is selected and another is not. My son got his TWE almost two weeks ago and has rallied beautifully, weighing all of his alternatives and planning his future…his goal is to be an officer in the US Navy. I know you will too.

Dial the gate, I sent you a PM. I cant decide though if I want your son to love University of Michigan, Nuclear Engineering so much he wants to stay there for four years, or if I want him to reapply next year to USNA...

You know this goes without saying but University of Michigan (Nuclear Engineering major) OOS is INCREDIBLY tough to get, so obviously your son is the cream of the crop!

Also I am going to be honest, Illinois redistricting did not help you at all, you got redistricted into a very hard district.

Wait Listed

So sorry about the ongoing TWEs. MiddyB, I was really hanging in there for you -- how can it be that we make such connections with people whose real names we don't even know? Would be nice to hear about a BFE sometime soon on this thread.

Turns out DS's TWE was a selection to the Wait List, so he's still "in the game." The emotions are quite fascinating. I was embracing his top options (he was not), and now? Could find out as late as mid-June? I can do this … I think.

Here's my question for BGOs and other knowledgable posters -- is there any benefit to opening an application now while still wait listed?

Ergg my dear friend just got her TWE, she just texted me. We kept each other in comfort thinking we'd both make it, now it's just me left. All the people I've met I'm CVW and online social media, I'm the only one left. Remaining hopeful. God Bless all.

Sorry to hear about all the TWEs arriving today. So many highly qualified applicants -- it's just perplexing.

Kayaker, glad to hear your DS is "still in the game," but sorry that the waiting will be prolonged.
Looks like you come from a very competitive district, so i'm sure his qualifications stand up well.
Good luck to you and your DS.

TWE with no waitlist here today.

Really generic letter that doesn't add up with his stats of all A's with AP and Engineering classes, class rank in top 5% of a class of over 1100, strong CFA with max pullups, pushups, 6 min run, etc, Young Marines, Youth City Council.

Basically a victim of numbers in an unusually strong district this year with at least 5 early offers of appointment. DS best friend with basically identical stats is going. DS would love to have gone with him.

Other options still open, but it's a little bit of a gut kick for everyone. I think the hardest part is trying to explain to parents of kids applying to "normal" schools. They truly can't relate.

Rocatlin I completely agree with your last paragraph. It is so true. I am so sorry you got the TWE. To many great candidates this year getting disappointed.
