‘25 PS so far

@A1Janitor —my God would never do that to me. Donuts and Sunday church are regular occurance. In fact my parents would bribe us kids with donuts if we behaved. Of course I carried that tradition on with my kids. Somehow there has always been a donut shop between church and home most of my life.

My DR however may have other thoughts on said donut consumption.

Haha Donuts are my weakness.

I can’t remember having one in the last year.

Amish folks come down from PA in buses and go back every evening, Thurs-Sat. They don’t drive them of course. No Sunday work. They focus on church, family and friends that day.
I didn’t know until recently they went back and forth every day. Several families. I didn’t envision them in a hotel, was not sure how their logistics worked.

I used to commute weekly from Northern NJ to Hunt Valley MD and my backdoor route took me through Lancaster County. Based on that I'd estimate a typical 90 minute trip between Annapolis and much of Lancaster Cty and that is with little to no traffic.

I also expect they get there very early to crank up the ovens and get the live cooking actions going, so I bet they leave at oh dark thirty to roll through the countryside and are well past the Baltimore Beltway before any traffic. They no doubt have it down to an exact routine to close down, sanitize, do required health department routines, get ready for next day or next week.

I was raised a Protestant, then converted to Catholicism as an adult. Went to my first Bat Mitzvah last night, where dessert was these amazingly delicious hand pies — apple, blueberry/blackberry, peach. I tried all three and they were absolutely delectable!

Bringing this back to the Amish Market: I imagine they sell hand pies also, and perhaps as good as these. Which would go to show, no faith has a monopoly on delicious fruit baked in pastry. 😉

After two days of talking a mile per minute, DD was very quiet today. Then, she broke down about 45 mins before she was due back on deck. "I'll be home for Christmas" was, as predicted, playing over the speakers at Mother B. She put her game face on once we were back on campus. Thankful for the time this weekend, but today was tough!

Perhaps you’ve heard by now the well-worn mantra: That you can divide the four years at USNA into three “equally long” parts. Part 1 is plebe summer. Part 2 is the rest of plebe year. Part 3 is the last three years.

As someone who fretted over DD surviving plebe summer, was anxious about her thriving during the rest of plebe year, and is still somewhat concerned for her as a firstie — I can fully attest that this is how the time truly moves. So buckle in for the ride. It’s going to be fast!

So I was able to check a box off the recommended eatery list today—-Chick and Ruth’s! It was the best crab cake I have ever eaten! Thanks for the recommendation.
What did you think of the pickles? I like a place that puts pickles out to munch on while you're waiting.

Goodbyes get more ‘comfortable’. Sending mine back today. But they cannot wait to get back. Seriously. Missing their mates. Looking forward to the next year. For different reasons. Dare I say joyful? Not a ‘painful’ one that was the last day of PPW.

It does get more comfortable. Easier. Less painful. Pinky swear. Sunday PPW was the hardest day ever for me. Even more difficult than Iday…which was full of excitement and anticipation. PPW Sunday is full of going back to the ‘yuck’ that they already know is there. And I did, too, from their sharing. So it’s a different vibe.

But know that these last few days ARE different for them. It IS exciting. And they will have their phones back soon, and you will hear all about it.

For me I-day was worse than yesterday as I know very quickly he will be "just a phone call away." My DS did admit he missed home and it was tough to say goodbye but I gave him the "this is part of life" talk that we all go through in life. Even more so those of us who seek adventure on this wonderful, wild blue marble and leave the place whence they came from. My typically stoic DS, who received feedback from his company that he is "too serious" had moist eyes as we hugged goodbye. He even gave multiple hugs to his old man which is unusual. However I am convinced once he walked into Mother B he was locked back in.

As PS comes to end, I want to thank everyone for the advice and counsel. I cringe as I look back on my OP, but it served a purpose and started the conversation. Of course that was not my last cringeworthy post which I believe was when I used "middies" to refer to Midshipman.

Again thank you all. In ~5 days this thread should (could?) end and perhaps a new one be born.

I re-read your OP, and it brings back memories of last summer doing the exact same things. I even caught myself looking at some this year's pics wishing they would magically find a few from last years to add in.

Needed to read this today…thank you @justdoit19! Yesterday pulled at my heart ❤️ strings way more than I-Day. DS verbalized multiple times over the weekend that they were “gonna get killed” this week 😭 So I am heavily praying 🙏 that these last few days ARE different and exciting.

Counting down to Friday…anxiously awaiting his call! Detailers will probably give them their phones back at 11:59 pm and 59 seconds 🤣

Please reassure me you all know your plebe’s USNA email is m25_ _ _ _ @usna.edu

We have no idea our DS email. He did not even know. Or maybe he just did not remember??? But he was able to recite some sea shanty about what the lights meant on boats!
He does know. That’s his “mid number” that he has sharpied onto dozens of uniform items by now and pieces of gear. M+two-digit class year+unique 4-digit number.

They will be full-up with laptops in new room soon enough. I was thinking you all could send a welcome email to wait in their inbox.
