2028 State Nominations Thread

When was this Nom interview happen ? (trying to guess the time window between the Nom interview and notification)
She had an interview in the morning with our Congressman's panel and in the afternoon with Mrs. Butler's panel on the same day, December 2, 2023. No words yet from Mrs. Butler's camp though.

Still waiting..what district is your friend in? We are district 4
Hi - I think you can expect to wait at least one more month before hearing from NJ 04 and either NJ Senator. My research has not revealed nominations being announced earlier than that in recent history. Of course, history is not not necessarily determinative of what may transpire this admissions cycle.

Yes. DD received 3 noms from Soto via email last Tuesday. She just received a letter, too. Maybe check email and snail mail? Nothing from Rubio yet.
Hmm.. when was your Soto interview?

Mine was November 18th.. I interviewed for USNA and USAFA. He may be going in order of interview if yours was earlier than the 18th. I haven’t received any emails though.

Applied for a nomination from Gillibrand (NY) in October and still hasn't heard a word back for interviews yet. Wrote a follow up email around 2 weeks ago and no response. Does that mean I didn't qualify for a nomination?

MOCs can run their process any way they wish. Some do not use interviews. They also have until 1/31 to submit their slates of noms to the SAs, so they can wait until January, if they wish.

What does it look like if you have a nomination in the USMA portal? I see that I have a nomination but it looks like I got TWO nominations for USMA from the SAME source.

That's a possibility. They might have had two slots available or they gave you two from the same slate.

Looked like DD's USNA portal got updated with a nomination from our local MOC, CA09, but no update yet on the West Point portal. Hoping to get multiple nominations since she had put in USMA as her first choice. She has LOAs from USNA, USMA, and USAFA; so hoping to get an appointment with at least one of them.
We are still waiting for Mrs. Butler's panel decision and going to have an interview very soon with Mr. Padilla's panel.
DD's USAFA portal got updated with a nomination from the same source, CA09, as well. Still patiently waiting for the USMA portal update.

Thanks for sharing, that is what I have found as well.

We are in NY and also have heard nothing about an interview from Gillibrand. I have seen others post here that they've had a Gillibrand interview, so we're praying that she might do a 2nd round in January. If you search "Gillibrand" you can find more info on what's happened so far this year and in the past. Good luck!

DS has now heard from all three MOC’s for which he applied. All three congratulated him on earning a nomination to his first choice (USNA). However, two of the MOC’s indicated in their letters to him that upon verifying with USNA admissions a nomination was already on file, they would instead use those nominations for others who have not yet received a nomination to their first choice SA.

It’s already been discussed in this forum how MOC’s sometimes work together to spread the opportunity around which is understandable, especially in competitive districts. We’ve also learned on here that competing on multiple slates can possibly better your chances. DS is delighted to have a nomination to his first choice and knows a single nomination is all he needs. But I can tell he regrets losing the chance to compete on the other two slates (more chances to win an appointment).

Is there anything he should be doing with the letters from the two MOC’s who said they would have awarded him a nomination if he didn’t have one already? Not sure if that’s important enough to share with admissions or BGO or both?

All the SAs who deal with MOC noms are accustomed to this happening; there is nothing your son could do or say to Admissions or BGO. You noted the MOC letter said they verified with USNA, so they are aware he was “in the zone.”

At this point, it comes down to if he is fully qualified, and how he stacks up against the competition on his slate.

Please reassure us he applied for the VP nom.

DS did apply for VP nomination. Thank you for the information!

I need advice about nom interviews ending with "if this doesn't work out there are other ways to join the Navy" (congressman) and "congratulations on making it this far, I am confident you will be successful wherever you go whether that's at the Naval Academy or elsewhere" (senator) . They sound like red flags for not getting the nomination. What should I make of them?

Context: I'm a sophomore at UCSD trying to leave and go to the Naval Academy. I have a presidential nomination already from my parents' service - maybe I'm not considered a priority compared to others who don't have that? However, I've heard it's better to receive more than one nomination so the Academy has more avenues to admit you per my BGO. Maybe I should inform the offices of that, didn't get the chance to mention it in interview.

Yes, it was the afternoon of November 18th.

Did senator padilla's office ever notified in the past if you weren't selected for an interview?
