2028 State Nominations Thread

I emailed to Warner's office to find out the result and was told that my son will not be receiving their nomination, but thank God he already got a nomination from VA10 for USNA and Kaine for USMA. It seemed like they missed notifying us.
what kind of nom for VA10 and Kaine? Are they competitive or with principal as well?

"First Alternate" can mean one of two things and you'll have to do a little research to get the answer.

IF your MOC uses the "Principal, Nine Alternates" method of nominating, then your son is the first alternate AFTER the principal nominee. If your MOC uses a competitive slate but ranks them before submitting them, then USAFA will look at them in that order. So...Primary/Principal gets looked at first; if they're 3Q, etc...etc...they would get the offer. If not, then they look at the first alternate...etc.

Make sense?
Yes. Thank you so much!

Sharing our experience with the VA10 Class of 2028 nomination process. Our DS submitted his nomination application 27SEP23 to both Congresswoman Wexton and Senator Kaine. He conducted an on-site interview with Congresswoman Wexton's office 02NOV but did not (or was not told) interview with Senator Kaine. We received Senator Kaine's nomination via postal mail (big yellow envelope with a nice blue folder inside) to the USMMA 21DEC. SEN Kaine uses the competitive method of nomination... "up to ten nominees are submitted for each vacancy and the most qualified nominees are offered appointments by the academy." After we saw the nomination, we confirmed on the USMMA Checklist and viewed "Congressional Nomination-COMPLETE". We are hopeful our DS will receive an Offer of Appointment and anxiously looking forward to a status soonest. Looks like the USMMA application is now 1MAR.

DS just got his appointment to USMA this morning! just showed up in his portal.
He has two nominations ( senator and a representative from Georgia) and we can’t tell which one was used for his appointment and honestly, we are not sure that it matters.
congratulations to everyone who has an appointment and good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear! Go Army! Beat Navy! (sorry USNA folks 😀)

honestly, we are not sure which nomination was used for the appointment, and we don’t know if the appointments were principal or competitive. he was just congratulated on receiving appointments from his representative and one of our senators.

Same here.. I haven’t heard anything from FL 9 (Soto) either. If anyone has, let me know. I’m unsure if these congressmen are sending to recipients in an alphabetical order, but if so it would make sense— due to many of the posters on here receiving FL noms having usernames (perhaps last names) that start with an A-D.. this is mere speculation though, and I may be very wrong.
Sen Rubio sent an email yesterday stating they were done. Good luck, Florida!

My son got a nomination from a Congressman and got an appointment from West Point. Then we got a call from one of the senators and told that she would also give a nomination to him for West Point. He told the senator that he had an appointment from West Point already and asked if he could get it for the Naval Academy but was told that all the spots for Naval was already filled.

In a case like this, then he has no chance for the Naval Academy, right?

He has a chance if he completed his USNA application, is fully qualified (USNA does not inform candidates of this status - CFA and DoDMERB are fairly obvious, scholastic/all else is not) and has applied for the VP nom. The VP nom is managed by USNA. It is generally thought USNA uses the VP nom for a candidate they really want but who has not been able to obtain a nom.

He could also be offered NAPS or a USNA Foundation scholarship, though these are typically for candidates who may need polishing in a particular area. Candidates who complete prep successfully have a golden ticket to the next class.

It isn’t over until Bill the Goat sings.

However your son's quest for USNA turns out, congratulations on the West Point appointment. That is an amazing accomplishment.
