2nd board results

For the record, while DS did get some scholarship money from local sources that recognized his potential for military leadership, he was not awarded a scholarship to his school choice. Now that he's a freshman, we are realizing that there aren't any 3-year scholarships available there either. From what I understand, the ROTC scholarships at UNG are extremely uber competitive.

Still, he sees the ROTC/SMC college experience as a stepping stone to a meaningful and challenging adult life, and worth every penny he invests in it. There are many paths to commissioning, indeed many paths to that bachelor's degree; they do not all involve an ROTC scholarship. Plan B, when properly executed, will get you there just as effectively.

And by the way, my son is the future officer you're going to want standing next to your future officer. He's in it 110%.

Interesting the silence on this thread. My guess is many parents and kids are lurking here to see a new post, while they chew their fingernails off.

LOL - I am thinking it is like when you see the huge flash of lightning and then you cringe waiting for the "sky-is-disintegrating" clap of thunder.

I believe Gandalf expresses it well in The Return of the King:

"It's the deep breath before the plunge." :wink:

... goes out to parents that are going through it with a 2nd child. Only when you are going through it again do you remember the pain, and it comes back very fast...All of the sudden, you remember everything you went through the last time, and the emotions and fears flood back in like it was yesterday.

also like childbirth! :shake:

FYI -- my DS just called me from school and said that one of his classmates just got a phone call from the battalion at a private college stating that he had been awarded a 3-yr. scholarship to their school. No email yet, though.

Kinnem,

Yes it is like passing a kidney stone. Having experience both, I would say the stone was worst. Our second was born in 47 minutes, my stone was born after 36 hours, no pain killers for either.

Our DS, AFROTC had 30% enter with him, and by the fall of his sophomore year he had only about 10 that started with him. Those 10 commissioned with him. Additionally, 100 cadets started with him. 26 commissioned, and that does not include those that entered as 250s.
~~~ His set is the host...place that into the stats. IOWs not all 30% were from his college.
For those that get the sorry. Don't assume anything. Look at the old threads and you will see many get ICSP, because nobody offered a scholarship will contract until next fall. Some will go to the SAs, thus opening the pot of money for the class of 18. Same with those that accept other ROTC scholarships.
The fat lady has yet to sing. Is she warming up? Yes, but she is not even close yet with regards to her aria.
For me, I keep hearing the Jeopardy song play in my head.
HELLO? (hel-lo...hel-lo...hel-loooo...)
WHAT NEWS? (no news...no news...no news...)
ECHO! (echo...echo...echo...)
:biggrin:
This is my craziest time of year at work and I can't concentrate a lick. I can blame this forum for fully developing my OCD tendencies -- I think I need therapy!
ROO's are told not to contact applicants until CC has finalized the awards, not all ROO's follow the rules, some make contact early even before the email is sent. These ROO's are probably trying to get a jump on securing the applicant for their school.
One word of caution for everyone, don't start calling your ROO's to see if you received a scholarship, most follow the rules.
Yeah, that's why I decided to not mention the school's name because I didn't know if they were supposed to be contacting applicants yet. This particular kid put all his eggs in one basket. The private school was the only school he listed on his application! If I were his parent, that would have given me heart palpitations!
My heart is skipping beats just thinking about it! Oh wait! My heart is always skipping beats anyway. Never mind. :biggrin:
