2nd board results

CONGRATS to all the winners:thumb::groupwave: A great day and beginning to a long process. Enjoy this time and finish your senior year strong(literally, run, run and run )

IF you didn't get the "big news" today...been there. Its a tough place to be, but no where near the end of your potential path with AROTC. Sit tight for the 3rd board, but realistically start plan B,C,D...As many have pointed out the commission and "bars" are the same for a national scholarship cadet as those who make it from another path.

However you get there - college and AROTC are going to change your life!!

THANKS

In shock, in a complete state of shock, no change on the status of my portal at all in the morning as I read through all of the celebrations on the forums, and what do ya know, I get the email at 2:30 and the call from my #1 at about 3:00 offering a 4-year. THANKS ALL. For the information and support in the past weeks. Never coulda done it without this community.

AROTC winner

Email today AROTC winner to Penn State, Gettysburg, and Susquehanna. Email said 3 or 4 year winner. Details later in a letter. At least we now have a backup plan to USMA. Son also has nominations to USMA and USNA.

Congrats! and that's great...it sounds like they didn't just send everything all at once, so no news may not be no news...just no news yet. Everybody should have just listened to Kinnem. ;-)

Keep your hopes up and your thoughts positive, all!

New to this?

New to all of this. What does "DS" stand for. Son received email yesterday stating he was a "winner". He completed the process himself and I had Lille to do with it. Very proud! As mentioned previously on this thread his status lists 3 schools alphabetically all pending. What does this mean? It list 4 or 3ad. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to SAF! I'm just a high school senior but these forums have been a huge help to me and I'm sure they will to you as well. DS stands for "Dear Son" (I know, it's silly). Congrats to your son.

If his portal has three schools listed, he may get a scholarship offer from each, or just one of the schools. As of right now the school battalions are probably deciding what they want to offer him, since they have a limited amount of 4 and 3 year scholarships. You'll find out soon via the portal or the official letter.

Colorado,

Go to the bottom of the forum home page. There is a forum called community. Hit that link. At the top of that forum there is a sticky thread about acronyms.

DS is the easiest to understand, it is when you start getting into the ones that are not on your scope currently you start

You will do you and your DS a favor come next fall by remembering where that thread exists because they can quickly start talking to you in acronyms, assuming you know what CULP means because they forgot that you are not in ROTC with them.

Congrats to him, and welcome to your new family!

I was planning on calling him after today if nothing changes. If my status still says "unknown," perhaps he can send a message to cadet command about the error.

Just as a word of advice, especially if you end up in an ROTC program. The PMS is not your buddy or your go to for minor issues. He is your commander. I know when you went for your interview he/she was all giddy about you coming to their program and that they could not wait to have you. It's called recruiting. Once you finish that interview with him, leave them alone. They are beyond busy, and a possible-scholarship-incoming-freshman is FAR from their priority.

This is not necessarily directed at you, but more so to a bunch of people on the board, you all take for granted the access you get to the PMS when you're scheduling an interview or coming to visit a unit. That's not how it really is, once you're done with your tour and interview, you're done. Go back to talking through the ROO. I mean that in the nicest way possible.

You may not understand it now, but junior officer's don't just sit around and shoot the **** with field grade's. Or run to them with every minor issue, their answer will be, "figure it out, Lieutenant".

I had to chuckle a bit when I read this.

While my older son sits in a Staff position waiting for a Squadron Line Troop slot, he said that's how he spends half his day, sitting in his Commanders office talking about Scuba Diving and Surfing, of course that's after they had lunch.

You'll find it depends a lot on who the feild grades are. When I was an Ensign I shot pool with the LtCdr at least twice a week, great guy, terrible pool player.

A lot will also depend on the PMS at your school, some keep a distance and some interact quite a bit. Between my two son's there have been 3 PMS, one keep things uber professional, one was more accessible, the current PMS interacts much more, my son works out with him 3 days a week and he is very available to the cadets, it's also a smaller battalion which I'm sure makes a difference.

I do agree though, for you new to be cadets, don't bug the PMS, he/she will set the tone and you just follow his/her lead, for now make your contact with the ROO if you have questions. At some point they will hand you over to the HR person to handle your paperwork.

AND...if you are going to read much of anything from PIMA, you better know your acronyms because he is an acronym hound!!!!!

I have a question. My son won a scholarship on the 2nd board. Within the past month he changed his major from engineering to political science. He does not remember exactly when he made that change. Will there be a possibility of him losing his scholarship if he changed it after the decision was made?

Did your son make the change of major on his application before he was boarded? Does his application still list Engineering as his major?

If so then he will need to let Cadet Command know soon as well as the ROO at the school he plans to use the scholarship.

It's not an issue if he changes majors within the same Category, since he is going from Engineering to Poly Sci it could be an issue. He will want to make contact soon.

Mastergunz,

LMAO right now because if you did read my posts you missed one of my acronyms...DH as in Bullet. I am a she.

I believe he changed his major on the ROTC site after he became boarded, but it may have been before the meeting. He isn't sure. Yes, his application lists the new major. I would hate to have the scholarship pulled. I will let him know to contact the Cadet Command. Will he find the contact information when he logs in to his account?

He has not been accepted yet at any of the three schools listed on his scholarship. He was accepted at a safety school, but the scholarship isn't good there. He is waiting to hear from the schools.

Of course there are always exceptions. I was at my PMS's house earlier today shooting at his range, and we hunt together. But I'm also not an MS1, and were not on a first name (well he is with me) or rank-less (is this a term lol) basis. It most definitely does depend as commanders are different, but in the beginning it's always best to err on the side of caution before bridges get burnt. And don't get in a habit of running to the PMS with all of your problems.

I'm mostly talking about a BN commander, not a company commander which would be a captain.

Couldn't agree more.

I believe you mean "Drop Rank", not the same as name dropping, of course that's the term we used when we served among the Dinosaurs.

Son's Squadron Commander is a LTC.
