Appointment to Class of 2015

Group 4 Question

Leapyear is correct. DS was at the Academy last week and was told his app was in group 4.

EA1 applications are being reviewed and scored by the CCEB as quickly and as thoroughly as can be. They are then sent to the Director of Admissions, and then on to the Superintendent.

If you submitted your completed application before the EA1 deadline you will have a decision before Dec 24th.

Anything other than that is pure rumor and speculation.

We were told that our daughter was in Group 3 and we haven't received a letter yet... still stalking... positive thoughts and lots of patience!

Coast Guard envelope in the mail today...

It was good sized and at first all I saw was first line of the return address

"United States Coast Guard" Could this be it?????

Upon further review it turned out to be from the maritime center and not the academy.

It was my daughters "Limited Masters" license she has been working on. Good news, but not what we were looking for.

More waiting....................

One of the moms in the forum found out from admissions a couple of weeks ago that the EA1 apps had been split, apparently randomly, into 5 "groups" for processing/review.

I don't think it split "randomly". I think the admission board review the application in "rolling" basic. That is, even you are in EA1 but you will be in ealier group if you completed your application sooner.

My son completed his application including his essays, Physical, DODMERB etc...very early in Sept.

So if you completed your application right on Oct 15 then perhaps you will be in group5 of EA1.

Good Luck to those who wait

I can't help but remember our waiting game....both times. I know, I know, this is an EA thread where everyone desperately wants the BFE. But....and I am hoping none of you will end up where we were 2 years ago....sometimes it takes more than one try to get in.

I say this not to be a downer, but as encouragement. My son wanted CGA. And only CGA. And he was late coming to the party, only discovering this hidden gem of a school during the fall of his senior year. Sure he looked (half-heartedly) at a number of other schools, but the enthusiasm just wasn't there. Then he stumbled upon CGA quite accidentally when a friend mentioned applying. He did his homework and BAM! It was very clear that the kid had found his dream school.

Well....he completed his application, and DoDMERB by the end of December, but he obviously missed EA, so into the regular pool he went. Where he waited and waited and waited. April 15th was the magical date to hear one way or the other and he didn't hear anything....turns out they were a little overloaded that year so final notices went out towards the end of April. Come the last week of April he heard....WAITLISTED! And not even in the "A" waitlist group (20 or so kids), but the "B" waitlist group (another 30 plus kids, or more). Sigh. So, he pretty much knew that it was unlikely that he would receive an appointment, but he hung on to a glimmer of hope. On June 1st he got notice that the waitlist was officially closed, and that he should consider his other options.

We thought it was game over. But, son had other ideas. He went to community college, took a 4/c-like schedule (did well), took up a new sport (did well), retook the SAT and improved his score. Continued his volunteering, etc, etc. All this to show CGA that he was serious about becoming a Coast Guard officer, and that CGA was his A-1, top of the heap, undeniable first choice for getting there. It worked. He got his appointment after a year and a half of hard work and perseverance. Worth every minute of the wait.

So, for those who wait, have a plan B. But that doesn't mean Plan A isn't hiding right around the corner, waiting for your kid to go and get it. The extra year did wonders for our son, and when younger son applies we know that if the same thing happens, it may just be for the best.

Good luck. :thumb:

So today I get home from school and check my mailbox like usual, not actually expecting anything to be there (like usual). Inside Theres a big packet in a cardboard "priority mail" envelope. I flipped, I was so excited, stared at it for abbot 10 seconds and realized it was addressed to my dad from california...then in the mail was a big envelope from CGA. I freaked out sure it was a deferral...nope. Just info on academics at the academy and why I should choose CGA. Two heart attacks within 15 seconds. So there's my day...more waiting I guess!

danman2811,

I hear yah on that! Don't worry- you're not the only one having baby heart attacks while mailman stalking. Nobody but those who are going through the SA application process could understand how dangerous mailman stalking can be(mentally and physically)!! Good luck to you and just remember, good things come to those who wait!

EA2

Any idea how many have applied to the EA2 group and maybe how soon those will start to go out:smile:

Well, dreaded TWE received here today. Best of luck to those of you still awaiting word.

Since I've received some questions regarding son's deferral, I'll provide the following: Letter was postmarked Dec. 1, so it took a week to get here to Fla! Son was EA1, did participate in AIM, 2 sport varsity, CAP Cadet, PFE 206, ACT composite 32 (33 math.) Hope this helps those trying to predict, but I really wouldn't try to compare. No one knows what the board really wants but them, and I'm sure all the applicants bring something unique to the table. Best of luck to all.

hang in there leapyear. Your son sounds quite impressive, as you already know

Don't lose hope...go for improving what he can, update the academy when new awards, etc, come in.

He sounds like a good candidate, but he can always try to be better. I think they like a kid with gumption and drive....show 'em what he's got!

Hoping spring brings you good news. :thumb:

one more step

No mail as yet, but Lt Katie Sullivan was kind enough to call our daughter and let her know she had received a conditional appointment (medical waiver will be required). Our daughter was a part of EA1.

Congrats!

Usually I find these forums so helpful, but I have to say posts like this are a bit nervewracking when you are waiting as part of EA1 and haven't received mail or a phone call.

first postcards, now envelopes

But not "the" envelopes. Yesterday DD received a big (but not fat) envelope from CGA with a brochure describing the majors at CGA. Okay. Now today, a TWE...but it was thanking her for completing her application and that she was part of EA2 and encouraging her to contact DoDMERB (she's been qualified since 11/3). I am wondering if anyone else is getting similar correspondence? Or did as part of EA1?

Envelopes

Hi, my son has received a few large envelopes in the past couple of months with the school catalog in it, and I believe he did receive a letter stating that he had everthing in for EA1. We are still waiting to hear by "official" envelope what his admission status is.

We also are EA1. Got the "everything in" letter back in late October. We got the major brochure today, but the cover letter was dated 11/9/2010. Go figure.

KMC, I applied for EA2 as well and received that same envelope yesterday informing me that my application was complete while also asking me to complete my DoDMERB (which I have been deemed "qualified" prior to receiving this letter). By the way, Good luck to your DD!
