Are Masks coming back?

Totally agree that Subway subs can't compete with Northeastern corner non-chain deli hoagie/grinders.

But need to relate personal story on the original topic.... DH works at the big puzzle palace (PP), whose policy up until a few days ago was no masks required if you were vaccinated, and did away with limiting numbers of people in conference rooms. It was honor system on the non-masked being vaccinated. DH got Pfizer in Jan/Feb. DH regularly attends a Thursday meeting with some big wigs and 30-40 of their people - very few wearing masks, and he chose not to wear a mask either. (before the no mask thing the meeting was in 2-3 rooms with 12 people in each room)
Low and behold, on 7/20 he calls me to say he is being sent home early by his office cause he is hoarse and feeling "off". I quickly get clothes and stuff out of our bedroom and bathroom and prep to move to one of the empty bedrooms in our house. He gets home, I wear a mask and take his temp - it's 101 and he's normally in the 97's. He then gets the chills and a cough is starting. I buy a home test that evening and he registers positive. He goes to urgent care the next morning (masked) and is officially positive -- which starts the county process of contact tracing, plus PP tracing (county did a good job, PP people not good).
I felt fine - I had no symptoms -- but glad I moved into a different bedroom! Continued to feel fine; did home test 7/24 and was negative.
DH is very active, healthy, fit 61 y/o with no underlying conditions. He has completed triathlons for a number of years, runs, bikes, plays soccer weekly. Covid hit him HARD. No difficulty breathing, but had nasty cough, headache, body aches, fever, exhaustion and brain fog. Fever finally left this past Tue (so 7/27). County continues to do follow up on him -- and did some on me (asked when and where I was vaccinated) -- they sent me a clearance letter last Sat; sent him his clearance letter effective tomorrow (7/31). He's still exhausted -- sleeps A LOT, very little appetite but will eat the food I put at the door that he then opens after I move away to get. He's lost 10 lbs. While he's "cleared" to resume normal activity, there is no way he will be back at the PP on Monday. He will telecommute some, but not a full day. Still has the cough -- they say it could take weeks for it to go away.
Where did he get it? We will probably never know. But he's pretty sure if was from that unmasked meeting with 40+ people from someone who was asymptomatic. We will wear masks

Your husband has the same symptoms one of my sisters had last year. It took her awhile to shake it. She also experienced long covid.

We (my family) are pretty confident my father passed away from covid. Wasn’t autopsied, but clearly his symptoms were Covid like… a year later when we know what they are.

A very good friend was diagnosed with it over 4 months ago. In his 50’s. Solid medical field career. High up guy. Today we found out he is taking retirement. He is officially diagnosed as a long-hauler. Has a port in, to get fluids at least weekly. His body doesn’t absorb them and he dehydrates. He has no energy. Is not the same person. Is depressed and sad. He was THE guy, and now? Feels like he cannot care for his family. Is a burden. Of course he isn’t. But these are the mental demons he is dealing with. Beyond the physics ones.

No one ever could have told us he would be this shell of a person that he was. No end in sight. It’s difficult for his family, beyond himself.

It’s no joke. It’s a crapshoot if your symptoms are rather mild, or if you die (my father), or are a changed person who cannot function normally anymore, with no end in sight.

It’s sad. And I don’t want it.

Sorry to hear it, but glad he's on the mend. My wife and I had it last year at about this time.

Your description of him and his symptoms are very similar to me and my symptoms--the only difference being that I had night sweats. Trust me they're disgusting. My wife's symptoms were gone before she got her test results.

My advice to anyone who develops symptoms like mine or your husband's is to invest in an oximeter. A physician friend gave me one as soon as I developed symptoms and before I even received my test results. If your DH isn't feeling right yet, I got excellent relief from the cold/flu like symptoms from this stuff brewed with orange herbal tea, honey and a lot of lemon. Don't bother looking at the ingredients. You've probably never heard of them. It's available at any Indian grocery.

I'm a Jersey native. I was in my hometown recently and saw a Jersey Mike's billboard. A Jersey Mike's in Central Jersey? Why, why, why??????
Same reason the McCormick & Schmick’s didn’t last long in Annapolis. Why, why, why?!

Here’s a screenshot of the ingredients. Definitely a medicinal tea to make an herbalist happy. I’m always interested in herbal teas and infusions, but I want to read what’s in there so I know what natural chemicals I’m releasing.

Gulden’s brown mustard on hot dogs, miracle whip on sandwiches (and in potato salad) and Mod Pizza tops New York, Chicago and New Haven. IMHO

DH was a Gulden’s brown on hot dogs for years - until I gave him a test run of Grey Poupon Deli Mustard with Horseradish. It’s his new fave for hot dogs, sausages, roast beef or ham sandwiches, etc. Still wants his oil and vinegar seasoned dressing on hoagies.

I like Gulden's, but Kosciusko will always be the best brown mustard in the world. Period. Not an opinion. It is fact. And, being 100% Polish, let me tell you all right now that it is pronounced "Ko SHUSH ko." Its is NOT "Ka skee OOS ko." Same rule goes for the bridge!

And the General!

All Feds are required to mask up now. Face shields in our agency have an exception. You have the vaccine no FS unless required by the entity we may offer services to.

Close friend was one of the first to receive vaccine he caught Delta strain and immediate took Regeneron. He feels much better than he did before taking regeneron.

So here is the caveat. He was symptomatic and around others before he tested. It wasnt until fever and constant cough began before he got tested. He said his doctor who saw him has been seeing a ton of break through cases and not everyone are having mild symptoms. They do appear to react better with treatment than non vaccinated. This is why he went on the regeneron med immediately. IMHO the vaccine is a false sense of security so people try to go back to the old normal. Me personally prefer not to go to large gatherings or crowded spaces. I am not pro vax nor am I anti vax. I am pro me.

You know what's going to happen when they start offering $100 to get vaccinated don't you?
Vaccinated people are going to go back and get vaccinated again.

They're saying I might need a Pfizer booster because I got vaccinated way back in January. If the shots are still free AND they give me one hundred fast-becoming-worthless dollars, I'll do it.

How is the delta strain different? Do they have a test to determine the delta strain or regular one?

I watched the live stream of the evening parade last night at Marine Barracks Washington. The Marines were all in masks. Outdoors. The full-house crowd, easily 800ish in bleachers, were mask-less. The guest of honor was an assistant SECDEF. She, the commandant, and the CO of the Barracks were also not wearing masks.

Side note: The evening parade is a can't-miss event. They do them on Fridays in the summer. Tickets are hard to come by but they live-stream it. The backdrop of the commandant's house, the longest continuous lived-in residence in DC is amazing to look at.
