What does he mean by components?
Yes a preamplifier and amplifier@AROTC-dad Thanks for clarification. I was going to ask if they were handing out stereo component equipment.

An Army ROTC cadet anxiously awaits two dates during the Fall of his/her senior (MS-4) year. One is the announcement of component, which is simply Active Duty vs NG/reserve. (i.e do I have a full time or part time job with the Army? Unlike Navy, USMC or Air Force, the Army ROTC program doesn't guarantee active duty upon successful completion of the program.)
The second announcement is "Branching" which comes about a month after the component announcement, which determines if the cadet will receive the job assignment he/she is seeking. (e.g Infantry, Signal Corps, Engineer, Aviation etc.).
Mod note: The term component has now been added to the Acronym list.

There are two other critical pieces of information which will not be available until early next year: (1) duty station and (2) BOLC date.

My DS was notified in the last hour that he is active duty and distinguished military graduate.
My DS (mid fifties OML) just called. Active Duty. He is pleased.
Apparently AD is going pretty deep as one of his buddies was at 39 OML and still received AD.
