Army ROTC notification date?

Congrats to every0ne who received a scholarship! Looks like I'll have to wait till next board. In the mean time I have a question. How competitive is the first board? I was told I had a strong application with a 3.8 gpa 1280 sat, plenty of clubs and leadership positions , multiple varsity letters and captain, and two full time jobs. Along with good interview and pt scores. Not gonna lie, I was really hoping to get on the first board and have the notification in hand by Christmas. So basically are the first board scholarships for those who are top of the line with stellar stats? And do they give out more on the second and third boards?

Yeah, there 1st boarders are generally people with 4.5 GPA's, 34-36 on the ACT, 1500+ on the SAT, Mayor of their city, 2 years in the Peace Corps, donated (6) kidneys, yada, yada, yada....
Official word has not been released yet. Many do have the red box around the winner, but status still says boarded. This is what shows on my DS. He has a 3.5gpa, 1270 SAT, Multiple leadership opportunities, multiply varsity sports and league/club sports, job, over 1000+ hrs volunteer and an outstanding PFT.

Sometimes they are called 'water-walkers' - these are the ones the ROTC folks don't want to let get away. They are likely to have multiple offers from Service Academies, merit scholarships from schools, etc, and the various ROTCs want an offer on the table, too. Yes, the second, and especially the third board tend to be more realistic.

Cedarville University is my first choice! Does he enjoy the program there?

He's a 2018 HS grad, so he's still in his senior year. I highly doubt he will be selected the 1st board with his GPA, but think he has a decent shot at the 2nd board, and a good shot if it goes to 3. He's been accepted to all of the schools he's applied to, but I think he's headed off to BVU regardless of AROTC scholarship. If he doesn't get one of the national scholarships then hopefully he will get one from the campus after he's been there a semester or so.

My son is a junior at BVU on a 4 year, awarded in the second round. He loves the program and BVU.

My daughter's Selection Status tab also shows the red box around the Winner description yet still shows as Boarded at the top. She's convinced that it is a positive sign but I'm being cautiously optimistic. I will feel better after seeing an actual award letter if/when it comes. A call or email from her interviewer would also be nice. She is still undecided on schools so it would be good to know soon so she can factor this in when making her choices.

Congratulations to all who have heard so far. I'm sure there's much more good news to come for many others in the months ahead!

Nobody really knows exactly what the Board looks at and considers a deciding factor when it comes to the scholarship selections for any of the boards. I believe that the whole person score has a lot to do with the process rather then just the raw number data from an application. An applicants Stats are just a small window into the application process. You will see over the three boards, scholarship winners post stats that seem lower then those that did not receive a scholarship, happens every year. Something stood out for those applicants that can't be easily seen in the raw stats, a lot also has to do with school selection, some schools have very large numbers that have listed the school, this makes it much more competitive. They may want to wait for the second board to see the type of applicants they have that had not been boarded the first board.

My younger son received the scholarship from the first board,(this was a few years ago), his GPA was 3.5 and his ACT was 24, nothing close to a stellar stat, although the rest of his application was very strong. Again....the Whole Person Score.

Hang in there if you do not receive a scholarship this board, it sometimes has nothing to do with your stats and more to do with many other factors that has them rolling you to the next board.

Does anyone have any idea what it means when it says “Unknown” now at the top? Earlier mine said “Boarded” at the top with “Winner” circled in red on the bottom but now it says Unknown

Yes, most likely an update with our status.

Updating....assuming ready to go "official" soon. Son sent me this quote from his portal:

Your current status is "Unknown", while information is being processed. Please check back later today or tomorrow to see if your status has been updated. If it is still in an unknown status, click "Contact Us" at the top of the page to send a message to the administrator.

Same for my DS. Had the red around winner, now has the unknown status

1400 SAT
30 ACT
4.833 weighted (school doesn't do unweighted)
9 Total Varsity Seasons, 4 as captain
attending competitive Stem Magnet school
5:59 mile
56 push ups
55 sit ups
Still got the typical boarded and winner box, then unknown story. Patience is a good virtue at this moment.

Just updated. WINNER. Tough choice between University of Virginia, George Washington University, and Penn State.

My daughter's just got updated. Four years to her top 3. I better not mention the "water walker" comment or she'll get a big head.

My son is a Winner to top 3 schools. Now just need to hear if he gets accepted to his top of the top school (Virginia Military Institute).
