AROTC January Board Acceptance

Aglages and House make valid points. Even after the scholarships are accepted they not be "activated" due to DQs, accepting SA admission, or the recepitent might decide against jointing ROTC for other reasons by the May acceptance date.

My son's best friend just found out his waiver has been denied today. He was going for West Point. It's heartbreaking as his dad is a 31 year Army guy and this was his dream. I guess if he had gone for a scholarship he would have lost it and it would go back into the pool.

God never closes a door without opening a window. Not trying to inject religion here, but I hope life has something even better in mind for this young man and his family. :thumb:

CJS, I don't know how far your son's friend is in the wavier process. However, he should review the DODMERB discussion site on this forum. He may also want to contact Mr. Larry Mullen, who functions as an applicant advocate". His email address is on many posts.

I have seen on the DODMERB discussion that waivers can be appealed and have seen posts this year from parents who had kids denied waviers that won their waiver appeal. I'm sure Mr. Mullen can help this applicant decide if an appeal is possible/practical.

On pins & needles

My son just got a phone call from his #1 choice school, asking him a few questions, including if he is still interested in AROTC. I am on pins & needles even more, now! DS, of course, is calm as can be. He was told he'll get a call back. I hope it's the call we've been waiting for!

I hope all goes well! My son hasn't heard anything yet from any of his schools. Oh well, we can wait. We are just so happy about his status change.

Same thing here. I haven't heard a thing from my schools either. I'm anxious to find out what they are, but I'll just play the waiting game...again.

relief at our house...

Heard from his top 3 schools yesterday. Our son got 4 year at his top 3 schools. Status still says DoDMERB, but guess that takes a while. It has been a long few months! This board has been soooo helpful. Good Luck to everyone.

I am a first time poster to this forum but have been reading the threads for some time. It is a great source of information and it is comforting to see so many others navigating through the scholarship process with the same questions, etc.

My daughter is an ROTC scholarship applicant (Nurse Option) and like many others on this forum, we have been anxiously waiting for further information since her status chanaged to DODMERB on friday. As many of you have said, the waiting is very difficult.

About an hour ago, while still disheartened by the fact that the list of schools had not yet been posted on the CC website, my daughter got a call from the Major at UNC-G advising her that she had been awarded a 4yr there. My daughter was also advised that she received 4 yr scholarships to her #1, 4 and 5 schools as well. We are overjoyed at our good fortune.

Just wanted to share the info as I know there are many others anxiously waiting to hear.

Thanks Aglages, and I appreciate the wealth of information that you've provided on this forum.

You are very welcome TCsDad. Most of what I share is just the information that others on this site (and other sites) have been kind enough and patient enough to share with me. That and the information that I've gathered from reading the walls in the men's room.

Hey guys, this is my first time posting on the board. My status changed to the dodmerb so I am excited about that, but I'm somewhat worried that my number one school, Ohio State, won't give me a scholarship. I thought I heard that all of their scholarship slots were already filled, and that they wouldn't be giving anymore out in 2010. I impulsively put schools that I'm not very attracted to for my 2 and 3 choices also. I'll probably attend OSU even if I don't get the scholarship because its always been my dream school, and I really like the program there. I suppose I'll just have to stay calm until further notice. This forum has been a treasure trove of information, thanks everyone.

edit--Decided to check the status before I went to bed, it changed and OSU was on the list of schools offering!!!! I am not going to be able to sleep tonight!

Website

I just checked the Status Website ( 0825 est)--Schools have been posted for those who made this past board along with a message saying ,"You have been offered an Army ROTC Scholarship, pending medical qualification from Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB), at …."
My son got 4 of his 7 including a pricey private school but not for the school this school"s ROTC participants go to attend classes. Go figure.

Congratulations to all ROTC Scholarship winners!!!

A couple of things -
1. Medical Waivers/DQ: Chase this aggressively. Everyone with a DQ really should Contact Mr Mullen via the DODMERB forum. If your waiver is denied - talk to him about an appeal. USMA and AROTC have different waiver authorities. It is possible to be granted a waiver to AROTC and not to USMA. This is why Mr Mullen needs to be involved to help you navigate this.

2. If you didn't get a scholarship to your #1 school but got one to another school - don't panic. It is possible to get your scholarship moved. Hang in there.

3. If you didn't get a scholarship yet.... hang in there. Don't panic. There are still scholarships available and movement will occur - if you are qualified and gain acceptance to your school your odds are good.

Thank you for this reminder. DS was told last July (when he did his PMS interview at our local university) that he was a strong candidate. He was told that again by phone yesterday from his #1 choice (out of state university). So...I sure hope Round 2 of the selections will be made this week!

Good luck again, everyone, and don't lose hope & faith!

I asked my PMS at the school of my choice when the next board meets. He said late February possibly. Can anyone else confirm this? Again with the waiting game...

I have been told the next 2 Army ROTC baords are:
1-5 March
5-9 April
Good luck to all who are still waiting and praying.....

This is my first time posting on this forum. I've been reading the posts the past few weeks as I was anxiously waiting to hear about my son's scholarship. It's been very helpful reading everyone's comments. That said, my son was offered a scholarship to his top two choices, University of San Diego and Santa Clara University. Can't tell you what a relief that is! We were starting to get very nervous ( I think I was more than him ) He's already been accepted at USD but still waiting to hear from Santa Clara which is his number 1 choice. Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet. I hope you get great news soon.
