AROTC January Board Acceptance

After reading about how well everyone else has done it makes me worry about my own application.

My GPA is about 3.58
Have several college credits
ACT 21 :/
I'm 5'9" and 145 lbs
My Mile time is 5 Min 24 Sec
Push ups: 56
Sit ups:63
I played High School JV soccer freshman and sophomore years and lettered Varsity soccer Junior year.
I was on a club team during that time too.
I haven't had a job.
I have plenty of leadership activities ex. Camp Counselor, Leading a volunteer Landscaping crew, and making it to the summit MT. Adams.
And I recently faxed a recommendation from a retired Colonel to cadet command.

I've applied for Gonzaga University, University of Portland, and Oregon State University. (In that order) I finished my application in October and have been patiently waiting for a change of my status. I'm going to remain optimistic even though my chances may be slim. Oh and I interviewed at UP, great school!

Keep hoping.
In the meantime there are a few things you might consider doing.
Update your application with things that have changed since Oct-for instance gpa, ap classes taken, leadership positions acquired since then etc-we have until Feb 28th to update online.
Check with the Universities you are interested in and see about on-campus scholarship opportunities that may be available to you once you are enrolled at the school. Check with AF ROTC as well as Navy ROTC options. For instance the AF has an "express scholarship" program for specific majors once you are at school.
Another option is to check out Army National Guard or Air National Guard opportunities in your state. They will pay for college.
There are many ways to achieve the goal.

Before anyone updates their application online, check with Cadet Command to see whether or not you have been seen by a board and can make any updates. Don't just assume that because you update on line that it changes your file. File it up with your contact at CC.

Here is an excerpt from an email back in December when my son inquired about making updates to an application due to lots of missing information:

UNCLASSIFIED////

Your file will not be re-boarded; however, your file was strong enough
that the awards & EC would not make any difference in your score.

Once you have been boarded you will not be re-boarded and your score will not change. Changes to your SAT or ACT can be updated and they automatically increase your score.

dont worry

dont worry about the chances, you sound like you have great profile and if you are patient im sure you will be accepted

Do you get your offer only after you are accepted by the school?

Thank you plmmar and ROTCatUC, I just tweaked and updated my application. Upon completion of my updates, they had me take a 94 question survey. Has anyone else taken that survey?

yes, i had to take it when i first submitted my application. maybe your app hadnt been fully submitted since you hadnt taken it yet? that would explain why you havent been offered a scholarship yet

That survey was NOT part of the application when my daughter completed it in early October. It popped up later on hers when she did an update as well, maybe in late November or early December.

That's what I thought, CC had sent me an email back in October telling me it was fully complete. This was the first time I updated it and then I took the massive survey. When did your daughter receive a scholarship; was it from the selection board after she did the survey?

Hi, I was wondering how 3yr versus 4 yr scholarships work?
I was offered a 3yr to Notre Dame, where I have already been accepted. I'm really disapointed because I can't afford Notre Dame without the scholarship and wasn't given an option to any of my other schools (which I think is odd seeing as they are far less competitive).

So basically is there any way to turn a 3 year scholarship into a 4 year?

otherwise, I can afford a west point hahah so that'll make my decision

Yes, afterwards. She just got her scholarship on Jan 31st on this last board.

Question about updates

How do you go about updating your profile for Army ROTC profiles. i have sent some things through email, nothing that i know for sure has been updated though, is there an easier way to update?

We were told by the PMS at the school my son interviewed at the the only change you could make to his AROTC application was SAT/ACT score.

From what others are posting this does not seem to be the case.

Advice??

The same thing happenned to my daughter in the December round. We were able to get the 3-year upgraded to a 4-year by working with the ROO and PMS at that school. In her case, the 3-year was to her #1 school and she had 4-year offers from other schools. We clarified with the PMS that we needed the freshman year paid in order for her to attend the #1 school. It turned out the school had one of their December offers not accept in the runup to the January board. They then used those $ to upgrade my daughter to the 4-year scholarship. The decision is totally up to the PMS at Notre Dame because it is their budget money to allocate. So, I suggest immediately getting in touch with the PMS to brief him/her on your situation and to see what can be done.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

I have that in an email from someone senior at Cadet Command, been told that by a PMS and by one of the ROTC advisors. You can make changes unless you have been boarded already. Once board your score stays unless your SAT/ACT score goes up. This will automatically up your OML score if they receive the new SAT/ACT scores.

Both the PMS and ROTC Advisors tried in vain with CC to have something changed back in early December. They both got the same answer, "No changes as he's already been boarded".

Now, maybe others have been told something differently and maybe we've just been given false information by many. This is our first time through this and I certainly don't work for CC so I can only give the information so I am by no means an authority on anything! Well maybe some things, just not relating to CC!!! I can only tell you what we've been told and what has happened to my son throughout this scholarship journey.

What if you needed to add some schools to the list, would it not matter? I updated mine last night and added a couple of schools to my list. Also, was there a selection board that met last week or do they meet every other month?

For those who are familiar with how this whole system works, do you think most of the applications are already in? Will March and April boards just be re-reviewing applications from January with few new entries?

The next board meeting from what we have been told is in the beginning of March.

For acceptance date from this go round is March 6th. I wouldn't expect to hear anything until the end of March.

The application date was January 10th with updates everything due in by some date in February.
They will have to look at the applications that weren't complete for the January board (in other words maybe the PMS interview wasn't done or SAT scores in yet) and give them a score. It's impossible to know how many applications were not 100% complete by the January board date.

Then they will pick scholarships off the list of OML scores from new board and the carry-overs from all the last boards.

I faxed in my intent to utilize, and im wondering if ill hear something confirming that the letter got through. will any word be sent to me saying that they did indeed get it?
