AROTC Scholarship awards may be starting

I just found out that I have been offered an Army ROTC scholarship to my #2 and #3 schools which are in-state. If I accept it when I get the letter in the mail does that invalidate my chances at say the Navy and Air Force scholarships? Could I drop the Army one if the Navy or Air Force awards me a scholarship?

I am trying to confirm something that I read this morning.

If you do not mind, please post the region of the schools that the offers are for. For example, Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, etc.

New England for one and Pennsylvania (not sure what region PA is in) for the other.

Yes, accept the Army scholarship when you get the letter, you have until May sometime when you will get another letter that confirms the scholarship. If you receive a scholarship from the Navy or the Air Force you can decline the Army scholarship later if you choose.

The biggest thing to remember is accept the scholarship within the 30 days, you can decline it later if you receive a scholarship from the other 2 services.

Thanks for the link Ed. Both my son's schools are in the 2nd Brigade.

It is probably an error in the states listed at this link, but is there another reason that Massachussetts and Connecticut are not listed when you click on the 2nd brigade?

Just curious.

Too tough to spell. Also, I noticed that the University of New Haven was not listed as the home of an AROTC battalion.

if there are no schools listed on your page then can you use it at any school?

No.

The schools should show up on the status page at some point.

Remember the status page information is not official. The only official document is the letter that you will receive in a few days. The letter will list the schools the scholarship is awarded to as well as whether it is a 4 year or 3 year AD. Until you receive that letter nothing is official.

Jcleppe is correct for AROTC and NROTC the scholarship will be tied to the school. You may be confused because for AFROTC it can be taken to any college that accepts AFROTC scholarships.

Additionally, create a file/folder that you have easy access to for your child. Copy every piece of correspondence, be it snail mail or email. This should also include DoDMERB info(dates, docs, etc), and recs. I would also suggest that you place a copy of their BC and SS card in it too, along with their banking info.

Trust me, our DS is a SR in college (AFROTC), and I still pull out something every yr for him. LY (jr) I had to pull out for his TS clearance the recs. Soph yr it was the date of his DoDMERB. Freshman yr it was his SS card. Believe it or not, TY it was his banking account, his stipend keeps getting bounced back to DFAS, an account that for Sept. worked, but now because OCT is FY 11/12 is lost in the system.

This is far off, but place it in the back of your mind now. To contract they will need the official BC and SS card. Copies are not allowed. We sent out DS with the official ones, but also a pre-paid overnight so he could send it back to us immediately.

Again, a reason why to make a file now.

congrats to those who received scholarship. It's amazing how fast the results came out. Last year, the first board was at the beginning of Oct but the results did not show until Mid Nov.

One tip: those of you who are happy with the school listed on your acceptance letter, and if the school you chose accepts early action or early decision, or even rolling admission, consider applying now before the early application deadline (most likely Nov 1: some cases, Nov 15). Of course, early decision requires commitment so that you can't change your mind later and request a scholarship transfer to a different school, but scholarship transfer is going to be a pretty dicey thing going forward and frankly I would advise betting on it anyway.

Note that if the school you have in mind has a pretty competitive scene, early application of any kind (early action, early decision, rolling application, etc) gives you better odds of getting accepted.

Good luck.

How long is it taking between the initial "you have been offered" message and the school info showing up?

DS has the initial message but no schools yet... holding breath here!

Thanks in advance.

I would check back this afternoon...just a guess, but it seems most updates from Cadet Command have been after 3 pm ET. Again, just a educated guess...good luck!!
