TWE day in Massachusetts. I want to thank all of you for sharing your stories and thoughts. I never would have made it through this process as a parent without all of you. Our TWE moment went like this: 2:30 today: He read the letter, put it on the counter, then I read the letter, then we hugged and cried hard for 10 minutes without saying a word. It was a moment in my life I'll never forget. He went upstairs, tossed a few things around in his room, then his basketball coach came over, more tears, then he changed his clothes and headed out the door to baseball practice. It was so quiet and lonely after he left.

If you don't mind, I would like to post a few highlights from my son's profile---read it if you'd like---I'm going to write it because it will be therapeutic for me to share it with all of you, my forum friends. [I won't list everything so I won't bore you!] ;)

Plan B…………not sure yet. He has some good options but is now saying he may look into doing a prep year somewhere and trying again for 2020. I think he needs a few days to lick his wounds and I will be sharing when he makes a final decision! :) Thank you for asking.

Thank you. This is why this forum is so great---it's not at ALL like a "regular" college rejection and only the people on this forum can truly understand the TWE moment I described. I also cried very hard last Friday when I read all the TWE stories from others. Thank you again.

You should be very proud of your son and all of his accomplishments, Massachusetts is very competitive. You had me at polite hard-working :).. he sounds like an amazing young man. Wishing him the best of luck :)..

I am so sorry to hear your news, JTGib. I can only tell you that I am sure your son will be successful in whatever he does. People like him are needed in this world. He took the news like a man and didn't complain or ask why. He will go far. If he ends up doing ROTC or something similar, it would be my honor to serve with him one day. Major respect to you and him.

Thank you so much for what you wrote. It made me cry again---but in a good way. Thank you.

I'm always amazed at the outstanding young people who do not get an appointment. My heart breaks for you both. Good luck on future endeavors. I'm certain he will become an amazing adult

So sorry to hear all the sad news about the TWE. you son sounds like an amazing and well qualified candidate. I'm guessing you are in a highly competitive district. Always heart wrenching reading about the highly qualified candidates that don't get in. No doubt your DS will be an outstanding addition anywhere he goes. Wishing your family well as your DS navigates through his future.

Still have heard no news from USNA... I received my TWE last year early march... I hate to get hopeful since I would consider myself to be fairly average compared to some of the others stats.

What an amazing resume! I am still on the island, and my credentials somewhat similar to your son's.
Do you mind sharing his ACT/SAT scores? I don't understand what the academy is looking for if someone like your son got a TWE.
Best of luck for class of 2020!!!

TWE arrived today- Can't say that I am not relieved! It's freeing to be able to have a direction.

In case anyone is curious, my ds is in the top 5% of his class of around 600, ACT of 35 english and 30 math (I think the math was one of the major reasons he didn't get in), great BGO interview, 4.1 weighted GPA, currently in all but one AP class with A's in them all (including physics) and B in Calculus. Great, but not maxed out CFA, lettered in one sport, played three total. Attended Boys State, along with another Rotary selective leadership camp, NASS, USMA's SLE, hundreds of volunteer hours, leader in church youth, NHS, National Beta club, FBLA, FBLA competitive winner in district and state competitions, co-led and co-founded a school bible study, lifeguard certified, with jobs in summers, 3 noms...

He will move forward right now to his next plan which is to attend a state college with full scholarship in their honors college. We haven't really discussed if he will reapply to USNA.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

He scored ACT-32 and all SAT scores were just above 700. (Math was highest at 750) He also took 2 subject tests and scored 710 in the math and 680 on the history one but I don't remember the specific names of the subject area tests. So many great kids don't get in but they are all competing against similar records---that's what's so tough, but all who apply should be commended knowing that even though they have worked so hard their entire life to be the best, they have no control over this process. All you can really do is put your best foot forward and hope it's better than the next application! :) My DS came up short so I am sure there was someone else stronger. He's always been described by teachers and coaches as a quiet, humble leader and deep in my own head, I wondered if that was where he came up short---maybe in his interviews he seemed "too quiet" because he is a man of few words, especially when asked about his accomplishments. He relied heavily on his letters of recomendation to do that for him and maybe that just wasn't enough. Thanks again for your kind words!!! :):):):):):)

Sorry to all those who received TWE's this week!

DanD,

Congrats on your appointment and scholarship. Those are great options.
Have you accepted them yet? Don't let them get away.

We are still waiting as well. DS was told he was wait listed and is locking down his plan B school by middle of this month.

Good luck to all.
