C/O '26 parents - place to commiserate and share. Roller coaster for the next 3 years!

For any parents visiting kids at West Point and having the traverse the hellhole that is the Jersey Turnpike, on the way back down south, there are Shake Shacks in a couple of the service areas!
Speaking of…

I’m helping DD move next week, from Quantico headed south. Any good burger recos along 95 through the Carolinas?

I’ve heard a bit about Buc-ee’s, but I believe that’s a c-store more than a burger place.

That’s it! You got it! Now keep at it. Practice makes perfect. 😉

(@A1Janitor, you actually have it right. But I’m trying to be encouraging and supportive of @severn. They seem to really be trying. 😊)

The Buc-ees is about an hour South of "South of the Border" for planning purposes.
I've been to a couple of them and the burgers are OK but IMHO, you really should go for the
Sausages - on a stick and other serving modes.
It is worth a visit if only for the experience of a supermarket sized Convenience Store with 100 or so
gas pumps.

I grew up in rural agricultural NorCal. In n Out was a new thing that happened a couple decades ago and I fell in love. For me, best fried and burger and totally affordable. Clean facilities, excellent customer service.

Not a Whataburger fan.

Never had Shake Shack.

I keep emailing corporate for In n Out asking them to open near our main Army entry gate built in clientele. They won’t expand past their ability to deliver fresh produce daily.

Sold.

Edit, best hand cut French fries.

Kid texted me from their layover in AZ. Should be in San Diego soon. Also said the first batch of kids got hosed with their flight, and had to practice extreme semper gumby for their trip.

Said they believe they are cutting the SWO part of their's to fit in the 3 weeks instead of 4.
DGD told parents that they would be doing SWO and Aviation together so that they got everything in

You really need to stop at Buc-ees if you’ve never been!

Curse like a sailor ...... crass like a soldier.

No need for excuses, I'm right there with you. ;)

Side note ..... where were you stationed during Desert Storm?? I was in Riyadh and then Al Quaysumah (both in Saudi).

Ok, I admit, crass response, but I was Army Enlisted afterall. . .

I am hopeful Beaver Nuggets are not akin to Rocky Mountain Oysters o_O
They are not, thankfully! I stop at Bucces on most of my road trips as we have a few on some common traveled roads for me. Hit one up yesterday in fact. Always a clean bathroom, great snacks and cheaper gas. I do know how to get in and out of the ones I frequent pretty well as opposed to the traffic jams that exist at most. If you like beef jerky, they have a beef jerky bar. The bbq sandwiches are decent. They have the biggest road fountain ever, so many selections, tons of snacks too.

I was with the 3rd ACR. . .Out in the desert most of the time, ended up north of Kuwait occupying an airfield at the end.

Awesome.

OV-1D mechanic here. Our birds did field recon and tracking for troops/tanks during the war (with a SLAR - side looking airborne radar).
