I was wondering if your ABS skill assessment tests can be failed or if they are strictly for placement into a math course. If you do poorly on the math exam, would USNA reconsider your offer?

First of all, don’t let your anxiety run wild on the Eve of Plebe summer.

If you feel like you should practice and toughen-up for the Math assessments, here are old exams to help you. starting with Pre-Calculus, and up from there.

Looking on the acronym list on this site, I couldn't find ABS. What's the ABS skills assessment? (thanks!)

If you do poorly you will no doubt end up in pre-calc not calc 1. It is after all an assessment or placement exam not an entrance exam.

And don’t worry——there is always the Marine Corps as a potential career **

Academic Background System - it's basically a bunch of questionnaires and placement tests for certain subjects you have to complete before I-day. The questionnaires are for chemistry, English, physics, history, and language (I believe) and the placement tests are for math

USNA isn't looking for reasons to reconsider your offer.

Look at it this way, by getting an Appointment, USNA has made the preliminary judgment that you have something they want - the ability to succeed academically and the character/leadership potential to become an Officer in the Navy or Marine Corps. You have also beaten out thousands of other candidates in a highly competitive process. Once the Appointment is offered, the competition is over and USNA wants you to succeed.

I don't recall the ABS, or even know what it is,,,,but highly unlikely that any one time, one shot test is going to change how USNA looks at an incoming Plebe as long as you make a reasonable effort on the test. Of course, if someone completely blows it off and makes no effort, that is an indicator of another issue, not academic qualification.

Bottom line, if you keep doing what earned you the Offer of Appointment in the first place, you shouldn't worry.

Do your best on the test. Be honest w out any extra help. They want to place u in the proper class so u can succeed.
