My son had his visit the week and it was awesome! Both he and I were so excited to be there. I know there are some midshipmen that post here, and I wanted to say thanks for the weekend. I was able to meet other parents that are going through what we are, which really helped. My son had so many different experiences that reinforced his desire to go there. If you haven't gone on a visit, and are invited, I highly recommend it and for parents to go if at all possible. Thanks to all that post here. This board is such a help!

My son was also there. Ditto to Jerzgirl's comment. Yes, she and I did meet. It is a small world and this forum helped to make it possible.

They mostly invite the candidates that they want to attend, but I just e-mailed my Admissions officer and he sent me the invitation the next day. I think if you show them you are interested you should get an invite.

Just for clarification, my family and I cannot just make a visit if scheduled? We have to be invited?

You can absolutely go onto the yard and look around without an invite, however if you want to participate in the candidate visitor weekend which entails staying with a mid, going to class, getting tours of the engineering labs, eating in king hall, going out on yard patrol ships, and basically living like a mid for 2 days, you need an invite. (I requested one and got it)

Depends on what you mean by attend. They do not necessarily invite just those that they view as will be successful for an appointment. There are those with LOA's that are not invited. There are those with appointments that are invited. As with all things USNA. There is no rhyme or reason but if requested they usually try to accommodate the request.

Thanks for the clarification, after I wrote it I realized how unclear it sounded. This is true.

My son sent an email to his regional director and he emailed him back with available dates. He is now signed up for March. It seems each regional director has their own style to how the CVW is handled.

There are lots of posts on this issue. Try the search function under CVW and you'll find many helpful ideas from last year.
