Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Just because it has not changed DOES NOT mean you are not going to be appointed!! My take is you are being overly dramatic and frankly need to quit worrying so much about if your portal has changed or not. Have you gotten a TWE? Didn't think so, you still have a shot until you get that TWE.

Thank you, and I'm very sorry if I've become a nuisance
I am very grateful for your support and the support others have given me here, but I am truly doubtful, because I did not get a BFE, MOC call, or portal change when I was supposed to (if I had gotten in)
The TWE probably just takes time to arrive :p

eric and 2016usafa

Was everyone with a portal change nominated by an MOC? I've only have the presidential and am still labeled candidate.

Time of email from USAFA Admissions is 6:05 am. But it sounds like the email times were different for others.

My son had a Presidential, Congressional and noms from both Senators. There is no indication so far which one was used. The letter of congrats came from our Congresswoman, but that doesn't mean her nom was used. She may just be sending out letters to students who live in her district. She is very personable, and maybe doesn't call because students are in class or after school activities.

Maybe the portal letter is replacing the BFE to save $$. Makes sense. There is a link to go to from the portal to accept the appointment, and then another link to the instructions to appointee booklet.

Don't give up just because your portal hasn't changed yet!

My DS was nominated by both Senators and our Representative. Don't know which will be charged according to received email last week and portal change coincided with mail date mentioned in email. If I had not seen the actual email from USAFA we would not have known BFE mail date unless MOC mentioned it. He only told DS last week that mail would be coming from USAFA the next week (which is this week).

I want to believe. But I don't want my hopes to go up then get a TWE. I'd be crushed.

Regarding post about waiting...

I think everyone on this forum does understand the challenges, pain, and anguish of waiting to hear GOOD NEWS. This experience of applying to a service academy is not similar to any other application process to a university or college. The process is so long and arduous, and the countless steps that have been taken to place you all in this spot today are immeasurable.
So, with that said, everyone here on this site wants to see each person receive that appointment. We know the heartache for the candidates and their families if the answer is a "no" to the academy this year. However, you are NOT a failure. Everyone that has reached this place is a success in my book. You should all be proud of your accomplishments, and our nation (I KNOW) is proud to have the quality of candidates (women and men) that have posted on this forum. I have a daily prayer list for all of those who are waiting to hear. I don't think that there is any one "right" way to be notified. My son never got a call from the MOC. He just received the BFE on March 1, 2012. Then, the portal did NOT change for quite some time after he received the BFE. So, I think there are obviously many methods of people being contacted. As hard as it is, don't give up until you hear the official letter. Then, if you really want this, apply again for next year, and we will pray for good news for you next year too! The support of the people on this forum has been wonderful. All of you have no idea how grateful I am for your input, insight, and answers to so many of my questions. We so much want to see your answers to your dreams and hopes come true. May Our Lord bless you all today and in the coming years. I am so pleased that my son will be attending the USAFA with so many AWESOME young men and women. I am totally impressed with all of you! batmom:smile:

Just a couple of quick words of advice - considering how things shook out last year - nothing is settled until you get some sort of official communication. Even then things might change a week later.

Second, the journey from application, to candidate, to gaining an appointment (or not) is really the easy part. You will need to find a way not to let your highs get too high or your lows get too low. BCT, Academics, Recognition, etc are bigger challenges than gaining the appointment and you will need to have really good coping tools to keep on a even keel.

Not matter what happens, life will present you with a path. It is up to you to make the best of it. Good luck!

2016USAFA: you're being premature in your less than positive attitude. It's not THAT late in the process. A year ago, I never would have imagined I'd be sitting at NMMI as a sponsored prep. And here I am. Don't give up hope yet! Keep the faith, make sure your back up plans are strong and take off that awful signature! It's depressing me, amigo.:thumb:

Hey!

Don't give up yet!

I got this this morning from our MOCs rep - this is the pertinent part:

" just wanted to let you know that the Appointment Offers for USAFA are expected to come out by the end of next week. I’ve been told that a few offers might trickle out after next week"

He also told me that all their appointment slots (not slates - openings) had not yet been filled.

This indicates another wave coming - so don't walk the gangplank yet!

So no change in the portal would mean I'm out, I assume?

Don't give up on hope! I said this yesterday, but when I saw my friend (C4C) during lunch, I told myself that I'll do whatever it takes to get in, even if it means reapplying until I'm 23. You can't just give up on your first try!!! As anyone else will tell you, YOU have to want it bad enough!

Best news I've heard all day! Thanks Romad!:wiggle:

I'm really glad to hear that there are still appointments to be offered. I know a handful of people I consider (in my obviously un-expert opinion) to be at least as qualified as I am, and none of them have heard yet. Only a few people from my state have heard anything...

I'm trying to get excited about my backup plans. I visited an AFROTC det earlier this week and another tomorrow...I know that it's a solid program as well. I just haven't been able to get USAFA out of my mind since Summer Seminar.

There is a reason

What?!?! Why did you even apply if you would rather hear that you didn't get in than to wait a few more weeks??? Patience is a virtue my friend....

I understand that, I can see why you'd be so puzzled, but the truth is, since I don't expect to be selected, then the sooner I get told no, the sooner I can enlist in the National Guard for my first year at a civilian university. If I enlist too late then I might end up missing my freshmen first semester becasue all the summer bct (basic training) slots would be taken. Also, I said Almost, so i'd still rather be told I was accepted.

I was in your same shoes, so I know what it's like, but you just can't give up. It's sound a little weird, but go w/your plan B, but tell them that you're waiting on a response from USAFA and that you will notify you the moment anything changes.

SMNE...and SAMNM so far today

DS also reports SPNU, but I am not sold on the “if the portal hasn’t changed then it’s over for this year” idea. I grew up in Missouri, and you’ll just have to “show me” before I really believe it! Plus, there are still 17 states that have yet to report an appointment… (Guess it’s possible that they don’t frequent the board as much as the rest, or that the distribution just isn’t quite right.)

I’m encouraging those of you (like me, for a while) who may ‘read’ something into this portal update (or not) deal to keep the faith and wait and see. Even if that TWE really does show up, which it still may for Raptor, at least you never gave up on this path. Besides, hopefully you have an awesome Plan B that ends the same way as it would at the USAFA: 2Lt (and if Raptor gets his dream, a pilot slot)! So, we’re taking all the advice and support from the awesome folks on this board and enjoying every moment we have while he’s still at home. Plus, we’re looking forward to seeing him head off to the adventure of college no matter what his new address is.

FWIW, I taught a LOT of 2Lt’s as a basic controller school instructor (13B AFSC) for three years while on active duty, and not ONCE did I ever treat anyone differently because of where they were commissioned. Most of the time, I didn’t even ask—we had too much work to do!!

For those who are still keeping "score" at home, here's the updated summary with now 33 of the 50 states as well as DC now represented (congratulations to those new appointees from KS, KY, MN, SC, UT and DC):

(1) Alabama: 1 unknown
(1) Arizona: 1 Congressional
(1) Arkansas: 1 Congressional
(7) California: 1 Presidential, 6 Congressional
(3) Colorado: 3 Congressional
(1) Florida: 1 Congressional
(4) Georgia: 3 Senator, 1 Congressional
(3) Hawaii: 3 Senator
(1) Indiana: 1 Senator
(1) Iowa: 1 Congressional
(1) Kansas: 1 unknown
(1) Kentucky: 1 Congressional
(2) Louisiana: 1 Senator, 1 Congressional
(1) Maine: 1 Senator
(3) Maryland: 2 Senator, 1 Congressional
(1) Massachusetts: 1 Senator
(2) Minnesota: 2 unknown
(1) Missouri: 1 Senator
(1) New Jersey: 1 Congressional
(2) New York: 2 Congressional
(2) North Carolina: 2 Congressional
(3) Ohio: 2 Congressional, 1 unknown
(1) Oklahoma: 1 Senator
(1) Oregon: 1 Senator
(1) Pennsylvania: 1 Congressional
(2) Rhode Island: 1 Senator, 1 unknown
(1) South Carolina: 1 unknown
(5) Texas: 5 Congressional
(1) Utah: 1 Senator
(3) Virginia: 2 Senator, 1 Congressional
(2) Washington: 1 Senator, 1 Congressional
(1) West Virginia: 1 Senator
(3) Wyoming: 1 Presidential, 1 Senator , 1 Congressional
(1) District of Columbia: 1 Congressional

65 total reported here so far: 2 Presidential , 22 Senator, 34 Congressional, 7 unknown

Keeping the faith!

Please cease being so fatalistic. Most posters here have told you that, yes, a lot of appointments have gone out...
BUT...
Until your portal says you are no longer a candidate, or you get a TWE in the mail, like everyone else you are just going to have to wait it out. It doesn't mean you are a failure, you can make yourself feel like one by assuming that the lack of an appointment means you are a failure. I assume, since you are a candidate that you have great academic scores, leadership qualities, offer assistance to your community and so forth.

Those are things that not only do the SA's want, other colleges and universities do as well. If you are wanting so badly to go to USAFA, is it because you want to be a career military officer, or merely to be accepted to USAFA by "winning" an appointment? I ask because if your life goal is to be a military officer there are other ways to attain that goal, and you are capable of doing so whether you go to USAFA or your State University. Not getting an appointment is a bump in the road, but the road is still there and you can choose to drive down it, or take the exit, your choice.

Nobody who has come this far in the process is a "failure." NOBODY! Don't hang your head for anybody, or anything. You are all very remarkable people. Don't let a TWE stop you on your road of life!
