Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Thanks to all of you for your overwhelming support! Here is what I shared on facebook today:
One of my teachers talked today about how facing failure is a part of life. Over the past two weeks, I have gotten four rejection letters: from USMA, U of M, Marine ROTC, and USAFA. But I will not let this define me. Thank you to all who have supported this dream and held me up when the dream was crushed, and I want you to know that it is not over yet. Giving up has never been an option for me; especially when it is something I have worked so hard for. I look at it this way: I have not failed. I've simply been given another year to try. And try I will.

Haley, you might have faced some stumbles over the past few days, but take it from someone who knows: with that attitude, you WILL succeed at whatever you set your mind to.

And you will value that success more than those who have not had to face those stumbles as you have. I would be glad to welcome you into my Air Force when you get there. You'll be a great part of the team! :thumb:

Heard from insider friend who was in admin and has some friends still there. If you are qualified, no vacancy, not gonna have a spot. Very doubtful for waitlist as they already put out too many offers and expect some to decline to get where they are supposed to be. If you are qualified, you don't get prep school. It's for those that aren't qualified. If you QNV, have a good shot next yr. This yr small class hurt alot of qualified kids.Just thought I would pass along. Sorry not better news.

Prep school is basically out of the question for qualified candidates, yes. But, a Falcon Foundation scholarship is a possibility.

Attitude determines altitude.

Sorry to hear that, best wishes to you at Norwich! I also got my TWE in the mail today. I'm in there with the reapplying club now, and also stalking again, hoping for a prep offer. Good luck to all others still waiting, and to those who are hoping for prep offers as well.

Sorry to hear this kiddo. Keep your great attitude and high effort and great things will happen for you.

I don't recall any kids from Michigan being on the appointment thread, very strange as so many states are represented. The kids from Michigan that did get appointments must be REALLY amazing.

Best Wishes.

Hey Haley, sorry about the news. I know someone who was appointed from Michigan and has ambivalently accepted his appointment (trust me, if I could hijack his BFE and send it to you, I would.) I'm hoping you get a prep school slot.

I recall you saying you're planning on going to EMU and doing AFROTC, right? I know some folks in Det 390, they're great people. I have full faith you're going to be an awesome AF officer, or have success in anything you choose to pursue.

I am confused now. What is the difference between prep school and Falcon scholarship? Our daughter was QNV and yes they used that term.

Don't count that this is 100% correct (It could be correct)

If you lack 'academics' (GPA or Test scores) but have the leadership, community service, etc. then you are ideal for preparatory school.

If you are qualified in every way (Academically, physically, extra curriculars, etc.) but don't make the first cut for direct appointment, then you should get a QNV. If you get that then you possibly might get a direct appointment in the future if candidates decline offers.

If you still don't get that direct appointment even after rejected offers then you might possibly get one of the ~50 slots for falcon foundation.

My Liason Officer told me all about this mainly because my test scores (I was around the 500 range SAT) were pretty daRn bad and he told me straight up I wouldn't get into the academy with that (I wasn't too pi**ed because my scores were bad). However, he told me that since my interview was so daRn great he would recommend me for the preparatory school on his little paper.

Don't quote me on this, because I'm still learning myself. Here's my understanding of the differences.

Prep School:
  • On base at USAFA
  • Primarily for recruited athletes (Allows them to practice on base with a coach.) *Edited based on skydivingkittens information
  • Also generally given only to those who have low GPA and/or ACT/SAT scores

Falcon Foundation:
  • Must select one of the military colleges from their list to attend
  • Primarily for candidates that USAFA wants but doesn't have room for
  • Generally given to those who show extreme potential, really want USAFA, and are likely to succeed there
(http://falconfoundation.org/ for more information on a Falcon Foundation Scholarship)

Hope this helps. I'm not an expert in this area as I'm still learning about it, but this information is to the best of my knowledge. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

I think all you said was correct, except for the training with the team. I was told that due to NCAA DIV I rules (or all divisions?) I wouldn't be able to train with the team as I wouldn't officially be part of USAFA. Thus, I would train at a club where the coaches would monitor my progress etc...

That makes sense, and I'm not a recruited athlete so I'm not privy to that information. Thanks for pointing that out. I figured they had it on base for the athletes to continue to sharpen their skills in some way.

As I am still a stalker for USAFAPS, I checked my online portal and saw that the red message is now gone... Can someone who got a TWE as well verify this? Should I be concerned???

It is gone for me as well. (I think since two days ago, actually.)
