Class of 2024: The Journey Begins

.
Are there any locals that have been poking through the fence down on the Yard to see what is going on? .... Anyone with Binoculars?

Maybe DW and me will venture down there in the next couple days to poke around a little .... Sure beats clearing brush, and my current project, replacing a foot bridge.
.

Nothing going on at all really. The plebes still have a couple weeks until the training kicks off. Until then they are generally restricted to their rooms and the restroom. They get about an hour per day of outdoors time and have virtual briefs on various topics including academics and the different services on the Yard. The Yard is still closed to the general public so the best bet for an outsider to catch a glimpse would be taking a boat out on the Severn River with some binoculars.

end of I Day won't be for another week or so. once ROM ends, then plebe summer will begin

this is a weird limbo phase, they are legally part of the military, but practically speaking they are just hanging out, waiting to check in.

I have a question about Yard access. I thought it was closed. When we went on the Monday before iday to snap some photos, we ventured up to gate one, went in to see “just bc we were there”, showed the guard our DBIDS cards and he waved us through (pedestrian). Mostly I was curious if there was access to the gift shop (which was closed).

Anyhooo we found ourselves on the yard! I’ve since seen the sponsor letter referring to the Yard closing as of July 1st.

So....isnit closed to everyone? Cans DBIDS still get on? What is the current state of Yard access??

We were so surprised to walk right on...our plebe didn’t have a DBIDS card. Just showed his license.

Well .... we drove her through gate 8 to Mitscher last Sunday. I suppose you could walk your Mid in, and help them carry their stuff.

But like you are saying, it may be off limits now to parents.

I am guessing things were fairly open for the few days during the 4 day I Day. Guessing it’s been locked backed down again.

For those of you who signed up for the USNA Alumnus Club, the photo program is up; They just posted 2024 Plebe Summer and the first album is loaded. 444 photos of 29 June, Naps, Enlisted and Prep plebe 2 be's reporting. Albums were also created for the remaining report dates.
Let the Waldo hunting begin!
Hi, we signed up for the USNA Alummus club & the photo program, but somehow we could not find the album of Plebe 2024 picture. Could you please show us where to find? thx

Hi, is there a limit in size for the care package? How often parents can send to DS? and are you going to ship the package via USPS? thanks

Keep it reasonable — the flat-rate medium size box at USPS is good. Two reasons: One, it’s amazing how much you can fit in there. Two, any bigger and your plebe may get a hard time and be “that guy.”

You can send as many care packages as you like, but again, be reasonable. They have plenty to eat, they’re not in Siberia, and all their essentials are covered. Over a four- or five-week span, 2-3 packages is fine.

Use common sense and trust the process. It was mentioned in this thread or another similar one: Even better than care packages are letters!

Click on the tiny dash under 2020 link. It is minuscule

thank you for your reply

I sent packages to my older Mid about once a week. He shared a lot of his stuff. Eventually he said to stop.

Spent a small fortune. A hint is if you aren’t sending super grant things, to use a regional box vs the regular two day. At least check bc depending on where you are shipping from, it’s a significant savings (it’s size and weight based, vs standard fee...which if you are shipping heavy things, is a better way to go).

THIS time? It’s all going straight amazon. No shipping at all. And sending personal letters for the price of a stamp. Boom.

Amazon packages are confirmed received by plebes.

Adding to this, it could be that Amazon is using USPS to move their packages. I don't know. At my house, most Amazons use USPS, in fact, I believe all are USPS delivered to my home. And how they move stuff in the past, may be different than the present. BUT, still confirming receipt, by many, of amazon packages to '24 plebes.

[A nice intro] I concur .... Here are a couple pictures taken this past Sunday at 2pm while she was unpacking and organizing ... right before her iPhone was quarantined.

I like the label in the 2nd photo, place against a “Rock or Something”. She was laughing and “into it” ... excitedly.

I think that it is encouraged to use USPS, because it is a government-run entity. Their prices are generally quite good for shipping, and they arrive when they say they will. Most people expect that out of UPS and FedEx, but may not embrace the whole post office thing (because taking packages to the post office is what old people like me do).

The important thing to take note of is the addition of the 1 Wilson Road address (followed by the P.O. box number), when sending packages. There is a shorter address (P.O. box), when sending letters.

We were told by U.P.S. that they wouldn't deliver to a P.O. box, but adding 1 Wilson Road in front of that P.O. box number is where the magic happens.
