Hello all,

I’ve been on these forums for a while. However, I just created an account. A couple of days ago, I received a conditional LOA from the Naval Academy!! I was so stunned to have received one.

Currently, I have all requirements done except that I was DQ’d in December. I am waiting on a waiver, it is the last thing I need before I can call myself a midshipmen.

I am wondering if being given an LOA is a positive sign for obtaining a waiver. I’m assuming the academy knew before I was granted an LOA, that I needed a waiver.

If I could be given any insight on where I sit, or if a waiver is looming, it would be greatly appreciated!

Go Navy

What’s the condition for which you need a waiver?

What’s the condition for which you need a waiver?

Current or history of deformities, or conditions or anomalies of the upper alimentary tract that interfere with function

Basically, I had a raspy voice for a little while when I was 10 or so. So, an ENT doctor reviewed my throat and found that I was overusing my vocal cords due to excessive force screaming while playing outside.

She recommended me to drink water and rest my voice more. I haven’t had any issues with my voice since I was very young. I don’t think it’ll be a big issue. I haven’t even visited the ENT in almost a decade.

I am not a doctor, nor am I an expert on waivers, but I expect you'll be fine given it's a minor issue and was so long ago.

I hope so, and I hope that my waiver will be processed quickly if that is the case. But who knows with waivers...

That sounds like a slam dunk. Usually, they don't even care if it was before the age of 13 (and hasn't been a problem since) for things like that.

BuffaloBoy,

The only thing that is true (based on your post), is that your record will be considered for a medical waiver. Since no one on this forum knows your exact medical condition or record, it isn't appropriate to speculate on whether your condition will receive a waiver. Obviously, we hope things sway in your favor, but there are no guarantees.

Yes, that would be the correct answer. Go with that one, @BuffaloBoy . I often think way too far over on the optimistic and upbeat side. ;)

Not really. If you get an Offer of Appointment, you won't actually be appointed (an actual Midshipman) until I-Day (June 27th).

Either way, a Letter of Assurance is a wonderful thing. Congratulations! We are all pulling for you.
