Field Training Extra Packing list

I couldn't imagine getting ready in the morning at Field Training without an electric razor. Bring one. You have almost no time in the morning before PT, but you still have to be clean shaven. Electric dry shaving might not be the best shave in the world, but it gets the job done. You will always have access to outlets so don't worry about that.

Long story short: Bring an electric razor.

I never used kneepads;
Ditto on the lady advice; can't stress this enough!
I would say moleskin might be a blister pack? Not quite sure, but that stuff helped.
I used baby powder instead of foot powder as some of the foot powder has a menthol or minty tingly feeling, which, if you stick down your pants, is an egregious error.
Everything said before is completely accurate and I agree completely.
Good socks are the best thing you can have. Seriously. I went to Max 5 and it was HOT HOT HOT and SUPER SWEATY. Taking care of your feet is key, as many have feet problems which can interfere with training.
Bring more stamps than you can think of using. I brought a sheet and ended up needing more!
I also covered my black notebook with clear packing tape, back and front, so that it was more water/sweat resistant.

Extra pair of shower shoes (they break easily), instant relief bug bite sticks (welcome to Camp Shelby), and cleaning tablets for the camelbacks they are going to issue you - gets rid of the musty dank smell in the reservoir. Kind of expensive but worth it. Just spent ANOTHER $100 buying some extra stuff for my son yesterday at the local WM... Parachute cord, small bungee cords. old fashioned clothes pins, and some zip ties... All very helpful and don't take up much space...

Arent there showers in our dorms though? I know it's in the FTM, but I'm wondering if a 2-5 min shower in a 4 person room calls for shower shoes, do we just get them to walk around in before it's time for bed?

Edit:

Forgot your DS is going this summer too Romad, so I guess this question is more directed to POC.

Would you recommend moisture wicking sand t shirts or regular cotton soffe kinds?

Believe me - you WANT them - Shower shoes - not just for showers anymore...

:shake:

At maxwell yes there is one shower per 4 person room. I didn't really use them there. However at JFTC it's a much different set up and you really need those there. I suggest getting regular cotton shirts. One cadet in my flight was talked to sternly because his shirts were not cotton... But your mileage may very.

I was told that its a good idea to use tape to reinforce the FT manual. Also when taping the manual, use a notecard to make pockets in the front and back cover of the manual.

I was told to go to a sporting store and ask for one of those free fishing license holders. Apparently they make for a nice, easy, waterproof holder for orders and 341 forms.

Good call - go with the packing list when it comes to uniform items - hope they get away from the heavy-weight ABU's soon though - not fun in the heat and humidity of summer in Bama...

Mailing Address

Can anyone provide me a mailing address for the cadets at MAX1 this year? I am unable to extricate it from my son who would be on the beneficiary end of any such mailings...

Thanks in advance

DS will be going to the Mongolia CULP. I know Army is supposed to supply everything needed, but will any of these suggestions for field training apply? I would like for him to be prepared. Thanks

If he's going to Mongolia in June or July, then Mongolian Death Worm repellant is a must. It is identified locally as the olgoi khorkoi, which makes it sound much less harmless than it actually is. The MDW is one of the deadliest creatures known to man. It spits a corrosive yellow venom and can emit deadly electric charges at a distance. No one has ever reported seeing one, which should give you a sense of just how dangerous it is.

I don't know why the Army hasn't mentioned this.

Uh. OK - Also you might want to take some fiber tablets or supplements since the Mongolian diet is very meat and dairy centric...

E / Central Asia was my degree focus believe it or not...

Ha! I think someone tried to bring one back in their duffle (if I remember correctly)

From the FTM:

Cadets will not place items on their carry-on or duffel bag that detract from the professional image of the Air Force (e.g. colored/patterned duct tape, ribbons, etc.).

You are correct you should not place colored duct tape on your duffle bag or carry on. However, you should still bring it. I'm not going to say much more on that subject because it will detract from the experience. As someone who attended SFT last year, I know it is a good thing to have.
