Hello, all!
I wanted to write both to inform and thank everyone on this board; big ups to marciemi, basilrathbone and pima in particular, although countless others have been a huge help as I've navigated the process of application, interview, DODMERB and college admission. Tonight, I learned that I have been accepted at Harvard, where my NROTC scholarship is designated! As you can imagine, I'm on cloud nine, and my entire family has breathed a collective sigh of relief. We feel so very blessed, and we couldn't have gotten through it all without the kindness and resourcefulness of the posters on this forum. I'm beyond excited to be joining my soon-to-be-peers at the Old Ironsides, and I hope to return one day to help, encourage, and inform others as y'all did for me over the past months. I truly cannot thank you enough, and I hope you know how wonderful you are for young people such as myself. The opportunities afforded students by ROTC are astounding, and I still can't believe that I'm able to partake in them.

Awesome news! You can meet some of the guys & gals in the Unit if you go to Admitted Student weekend and join them for an early morning workout. Have fun with your big red envelope when it arrives! Sorry--big Crimson envelope. Enjoy the ride!
 
Congrats agent! The hard work begins in August. Make sure you're physically prepared for it. You have a tough assignment ahead, representing ROTC on the Harvard campus! And oh yeah, have fun!

Now go off and be smart. No blowing off your last semester, no speeding tickets or worse yet, DUI. Continue to work out.

The door is wide open, and you now can make sure it doesn't close.

OBTW, please don't forget about this site. Next fall you will be busy, but remember to chime in when you can to be a guidance to the class of 17. They will need your advice just like you needed it.

How is NROTC at Harvard/MIT, and how is the academic load as an NROTC scholar? NROTC pays for tuition and books and gives out a monthly stipend. Are other scholarships available for room and board? Please PM me, if you wish.

Are you majoring in East Asian studies/languages after all?

It doesn't look like theagentofchaos has been on the boards for over a year. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a reply. :rolleyes:
 
I was thinking the same thing as kinnem. That is the problem reviving a thread that is over 18 months old.
 
My son is in her unit - she quit NROTC during Indoc (the first week of NROTC).

thementoringtree - if you have any questions about the unit, my son is now a junior at MIT and I'd be glad to answer anything I can or get you in touch with him.

I don't know her but it must definitely be a case of she quit. You don't have to pass the PFT until the end of the first semester. It's just that money doesn't start flowing until the PFT is passed.

Freshman Orientations can be pretty intense. In the past at my son's unit, it was clear one of their objectives was to make everyone question themselves on whether or not they really wanted to be there. They certainly achieved their objective. Even the kids who stayed (They lost 10 of 45) questioned themselves.... but had the determination and desire to stay. They have lost another 15 for various reasons since then, and are now down to 20 of the original 45. (note: All numbers include college programmers, but even scholarship winners left the first week and have dropped out since).

Your unit may vary.
