History Being Made.....

Does anyone have an update on how the females still in the class are doing?

No matter the gender, human determination is a tear jerker. It's great this video went viral! Thanks for the link, NorwichDad.

Another thread I'm following says all 8 were patrol failures, and 1 was also a peer failure, during the Darby phase. At least 7 - maybe all 8 - will be "Darby insert" recycles in the following class. As Darby inserts they do not have to repeat Ranger Assessment Phase (RAP) and will join the following class next Thursday, after that class finishes the RAP 12-mile ruck. Standard protocol so far.

It's the Internet, so take that update FWIW.

Word I have from inside (yes, really inside) is that all 8 failed and they will supposedly not be recycling for the women. I don't know how true the second part is, but it does seem true that all 8 failed.

Well, I trust your sources better than mine. On Facebook, "Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade" posted a list of candidate numbers who are moving on to the mountain phase. Numbers, not names. Several commenters asked about the females. No reply.

Yes, I heard that this afternoon from my source. I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't recycle though.

I will say.. whether you are a man or woman, if you get this far into ranger school you have done what most of us cannot! Hold your head high! This makes my 1984 USMC boot camp experience look like a Kardashian spa weekend!

Bet you went to San Diego for boot!

(Just kidding of course. Inside joke among Marines). ;)

But no real comparison since boot camp is an entry level school and has different objectives.

Pretty good info. DOD just confirmed 8 women and 101 men will recycle.

Best wishes to those recycles. Looking back as a reluctant Ranger school recycler, there was enough time to recover physically and some advantages of doing it again. It got mentally tougher as I felt more exhausted, started wondering how much longer, and questioning myself.

Agree, but disagree as being in the military is more about what we accomplish, not giving something a try. Completing a phase in Ranger school without passing it is just that.

There was a LT in my battalion that recycled every phase and finally graduated. Most people just saw an officer with a Ranger tab.

That reminds me of a recent Graduation Day photo of a small group of gaunt though happy RS grads. Each of them sported the distinctive yellow and black Ranger tab. Under that tab was another Ranger tab though with another color. All of them had recycled each of the three phases. Talk about persistence.

Recent reports and coaching is that recycle rate is normally fairly high anyway in Patrols for candidates not straight out of IBOLC. They apparently cover the material in RTAC (Pre-ranger), but not to the same extent. One of the few areas that the butterbars in the group have a little edge. Conjecture is that most (all?) of the 8 are officers, so you'd think they'd have some OPORD experience though.

Buddy of DS did the RTAC-Ranger before IBOLC thing some USMA grads are being offered, and it took him right at 5 mths to tab. And was never for fitness or medical, etc. Don't know if he was a day 1 restart or not. (Some will tell you failing patrols twice is automatic day 1 restart, others will quote examples of 3 darby recycles) There are debates on whether the risk of not having IBOLC offsets dodging the winter classes that USMA grads normally see.

Current reports are also that Darby recycles usually do well 2nd time through as they know the drill/expectations, are better rested, and know exactly what got them previously.

I expect the 8 Females will recycle as needed unless medical drop, etc. Would be very surprised to see a "Lack of Motivation" drop, or a honor drop, etc.

They will be leaving the spring weather sweet spot though. Not summer hot yet, but almost there. I can't remember if it's 1 or 2 heat related drops that result in "Never to Return in Hot Weather". And then there are classes 3 & 4 with much lower pass rates due to cold weather based on recent RTB data.

I talked to my son today. He was remembering mountain phase. The ruck march with the standard 45 to 50 pound ruck. Adding 10 pounds of ammo, 10 to 15 pounds of water, 5 pound helmet and hopefully you did not have to carry a very heavy saw machine gun. The ruck is through the mountains. A lot of up-and-down. He still is very proud he made it through. Best wishes to those still in Darby and to those moving on to the mountain phase.

By most accounts/guidance, candidates will encounter 45kg (100 lb) rucks more than once.

Then again I saw one of the 8 pick up their ranger buddy in a fireman's carry like he was a small child in the 1st video. Don't know what he weighed, just know that I could not have done what she did without much more huffin & puffin!

Congrats to your son, by the way. The more I learn the more I realize his right to be proud of that tab! And yours to be proud of him!
