Hello,
I recently was denied the opportunity to enlist into the Navy. I am 28 years old so I'm a grandpa in Navy terms but I also spent a lot of the time from the time I was eligible to enlist till now getting my bachelor's degree. I originally thought I would get my bachelor's and join the Navy as an officer but I had no idea how much my past criminal record what affect that process. I quickly changed my aspirations of joining as an officer to joining enlisted just to try and get my foot in the door and work my way up. Long story short I have 2 DUIs. One from when I was 17 and 2nd from when I was 24. I also have a possession of marijuana from when I was 17 other than that, that's all that is on my record. I expressed all of this to my recruiter before even going through the seven months of lengthy driving back and forth 60 miles for 7 months and he seemed to think it would be possible because of the fact they were so long ago and that I could receive waivers on up to 5 serious infractions (such as mine). So my question is simply this, does anybody know of a way I can appeal the Navy's decision based on my good merit shown throughout the years since my infractions? Also, I scored an 88 on the ASVAB if that helps my case any. Thanks for any input.
