If I am over the weight limit for the Army?

So I received the AROTC 4-year scholarship and am going to Vanderbilt next year, and am currently scheduling my DoDMERB exams; however, I am a couple pounds over the Army's weight vs height limit. Will this prevent me from being able to go on scholarship? Will I be ineligible to receive my scholarship just because I'm a few lbs over the limit? I'm not even fat.

You might be ineligible to receive the scholarship if you are over weight. If you are over weight then they do a tape test to measure your BMI. If you pass the tape test you're good. If you don't then you cannot contract and received scholarship money until you meet standards. Just lose the weight. If it's only a few pounds it won't be difficult.

You will be doing the tape test repeatedly over the next four years.

You do NOT want to be on the "cusp" of being overweight during this time. It is a good idea to begin a regimen immediately to do the following:
  • Exceed the minimums for the APFT (2-2-2)
  • Get CLEARLY within height weight standards
  • Move up to the middle of the pack in running and standards.
Don't put yourself under more stress than you have to. As Kinnem said your scholarship CAN be jeopardized if you fail to meet standards. Start now and it won't be as hard.

You’ll get taped to determine your body fat % if you fail the height/weight.

Your neck and waist will get measured. It’s best to have a small waist and thick neck.

My DS just completed the remedial on this. He is significantly over the weight limit but is very muscular. He went to the local recruiters office and did the tape test, 17.5 inch neck, 36 inch waist and came in at 17% body fat. He will likely never reach the 184 lb weight that the Army table shows due to his build but he is mentally prepared for many tape tests throughout his career. Dodmerb cleared him as medically qualified this morning and we are anxiously waiting for the BFE. I agree with the info above, find out where you are currently and see if you meet service standards, otherwise get the weight off quickly through some intense cardio and diet.

My son had said small waist and thick neck. I maintain he sometimes has a thick head as well! :D It does seem to get thinner as time goes by.

Your USMC rock star DS needs a thick neck to support that thick head I guess. [emoji106]
