Deshawn,

You basically have 2 choices right now.

1. Get off your high horse, stop giving stomp speeches. such as I failed the American people as a 17 yo in hs.

~~~ Accept the guidance, be honest with us and let us assist you regarding navigating the ROTC system.
2. Keep doing what you are doing...refusing to acknowledge that posters are not on your same page.
~~~ You may not realize this yet, but many posters are cadets/mids or their parents. This is a social media.

LITS, I felt the same way regarding your last comment. At 17 he has the DC talk down pat!

Great, now start addressing how as an ROTC cadet/mid you will be commissioned in 2017.

Start asking the important questions, such as how hard is it for a non-tech, non-scholarship to commission in either branch? Ease of changing majors in AF/NROTC. What if I am not selected for SFT or programmer?

What is the process/percentages for Intel in either branch?

How does the O4 promotion system works for AF or Navy regarding non-rated officers?

How often will I move in either branch?

Show posters you are interested in living the military life, not your typical posts that sound like stump speeches. I failed the American people, I had disappointments, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Start answering the questions.

Are you willing to be an Intel Officer on a sub?
Are you willing to be a PAO in the AF?
Are you willing to move 11 times in 20 yrs?
Be deployed for the birth of your child?
Do a remote in the AF for a yr?

That is the military life. If the answer is no, move on. Leave your political aspirations at your bedroom door. Practice your PFA, get your medical records in order. Scholarship or not, they can end your military career before you can say BOO!

You have 20 yrs plotted, but your 20 yr goal is based on commissioning, and you have yet to accept for AF/NROTC that decision is in 2 yrs, with a 50-50 chance.

Welcome to the real world AF/NROTC.

FYI, FWIW, 21 ACT is considered non-comp for AFROTC scholarship. You can walk on, but if that is your ACT score as a C200 in your records, you won't get SFT. AFROTC takes best sitting, not superscore. Test, test, test until next June, even as a sr. in hs.
~~~ Might be a question you want to ask for NROTC and their make or break yr. regarding how they look at ACT/SAT.
I agree with algahad, if you are scared of being shot at, and scared of possibly dying in defense of your country, then I don't think a military career is for you. It's sounds like its somethig you would like to do, it sounds nice, goo for political ambitions, but you don't really WANT to do it... Because serving for this country, means you might get shot out, you might die, you might be physically or mentally harmed.. and it appears you don't want to risk any of those things.. Serving isnt about you, its about your country, and youre fellow countrymen.. its about something bigger then yourself, I dont feel like you understand this.
Its not about YOU leading people, its about THE PEOPLE you lead. Its about your country, not about your political ambitions.
Ive wanted to serve my country for as long as I remember, and Ive don't countless hours of research, and ILL ADMIT, that I do not know what it is truly like to be an officer, to serve, to sacrifice for your country.. missing birthdays, and anniversaries, and time away from loved ones.
its a significant amount of time youre giving up, a serious commitment, and you might get shot at.. and there is a possibility of death.. wherever you serve, in what ever branch.
Sorry for grammatical errors in the above ^ as well as spelling errors Im using my Mobile device
you might get shot
You mean "getting blown up". Here's the thing... if you look at KIA stats for the past ten years for Officers who commissioned through the USMA, you'll find that "small arms fire", in other words, "getting shot" is a very small percentage of the fatalities (7%). The biggest category is IED (37%), and there is nothing a soldier can do, in terms of skill, determination, etc. to protect him/herself. I think 17, 18 year olds often think they are invincible, or that proper training will allow them to "get the bad guy" before the bad guy gets him... all those ways of thinking are irrelevent when you're talking about IEDs/RPGs (together 44% of fatalities of USMA commissioned officers for the past ten years). A strange fact is that more USMA commissioned officers were killed in Automobile or Train accidents while off duty (12%) than were killed by small arms fire over these past ten years.
right its small, 7 percent, but its still a possibility...
the OP said he doesnt want to get shot at, so I was saying that it is possible in the military, as was proved by the stats you just posted
a 7 percent chance
I've made my decision
Airforce
INTELLIGENCE
MAJOR IN POLITICAL AND MINOR IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE OR VISE VERSA
AND NETWORKING
This thread isn't seriously 14 pages is it?
Hard to believe isn't it.
I guess it was all worth it though because Deshawn has made his decision, don't quite understand the "Networking" part though, and of course there's the "vise versa" in regard to a major but I guess that's for a different thread.
Airforce
INTELLIGENCE
MAJOR IN POLITICAL AND MINOR IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE OR VISE VERSA
AND NETWORKING
I feel like we just went through Lebron's "Decision." It's great that you've "chosen" the Air Force, but will they choose you? Why did you choose Air Force? You leave a lot of unanswered questions...
Well.......
I feel like the airforce is what im looking for in in service:
1) Career
2) benefits me and my fam
It's all Ive ever wanted
Again, I'll re-post the same comment from the other threads you've posted.
How to commission and become an ariel officer?
I just realized that this is what I want, and now that I know I want to make this happen, but I'm clueless on how it's done.
Ok, enough is enough, you really need to find a different hobby, one that teaches you how to spell would be nice. Stop posting here, this is a site for young people to find out information regarding military service, SA's and ROTC, it is not for your amusement. You've waisted a lot of good people's time and are continuing to do so. Find another place to play.
deshawn,
1st thing, I don't think you made people mad, I think you frustrated the heck out of them, and many felt discussing this with you was like :bang::bang::bang::bang::hammer::hammer::hammer:
You were refusing to absorb or acknowledge the opinions of posters that have been there, done that, and got the t shirt.
You kept reiterating the same things over and over again without acknowledging what you need to do to obtain your goal. Great you wanted to be in the military since you were in elementary school, that doesn't equate to being the best choice for the AF. Desire is one thing, it is not the only thing. Every branch will look at you from what you have accomplished now, not how much you desire the what you want in the future.
That being said what they meant by their the least of your problems is ROTC and commissioning via AFROTC as I have stated before is you need to get selected for SFT. That is your biggest problem in front of you. 60% of that selection is PAR, just like scholarships, and the biggest chunk of that is SAT/ACT. 21 is not going to cut it for SFT even with a 4.0 cgpa at college. 24 is the min for a scholarship. Think about it, if one of the biggest chunks is SAT/ACT and you are 10 pts (ACT) off, they select 60%, plus you are non-tech, the least of your problems is making people mad.
Secondly,
I would like to understand how going into the AF benefits your family. There is no benefit to your family, they are not your dependents; unless you are speaking of your future family 10 yrs from now.
Even if we are talking future family, the Navy offers the same bennies as the AF, Army, Marines and CG. If you are assuming that the benefit is not being deployed, you have another wake up call coming from the AF.
Bullet did a lot of deployments for 18 yrs. He was deployed 4-6 months every 18 months, and when he was at home he still went every few months for a 2-3 week TDY. He missed every Halloween from our DS2's 1st (4 mos old) until his 8th. He missed probably 1/2 of my B'days, which was no biggie to me, but our DS1 and DD were born 10 days before mine, so he missed theirs too. He missed 1st Holy Communions, Father/Daughter dances, school graduations, etc. Yes, even when he was flying a desk.
FYI, when flying squadrons go TDY you know who else they bring? Intel. Intel is part of their mission briefing.
If your assumption is Intel is not deployed side by side with operational squadrons, you need to re-think your premise of benefits joining the AF over the Navy.
The only true benefit most military families will tell you is the AF has better housing. Which means squat because the better the housing, the longer the wait time is to move on base. It can take up to 18 months to get into housing.
Finally, I have to ask like others what you mean by networking?
Every branch has a strong network, but the way that network is you have to shine as an AD member. To shine as an AD member you have to get selected for SFT, rank high enough out of SFT to get Intel, and than shine as an AD member.
Intel is probably the number 1 non-rated position out there. When you go up for your AFSC board. That SFT ranking, DG, top 1, 10, 20, 30 ,50% will be part of your score, along with now your AFOQT (AF equiv. to ACT/SAT) and your PFT, cgpa, plus CC rec.
It is great you now know the position, but now is the time to stop putting that dang cart in front of the horse. Start understanding a 2.9, 21 ACT will get you into college, no scholarship(unless 21 was a typo and you meant 31), and for the next 2 yrs that ACT will be the problem for AFROTC.
Take the ACT and SAT over and over again until next June. You cannot afford to have that score on your records if you want to commission in the AF via AFROTC, especially Intel.
