Unfortunately, I have not received a nomination from my Congresswoman. Although I was selected as an alternate and I still have yet to hear back from my Senator, it is unlikely that I will receive a nomination.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me feedback and advice during this application process. It’s been an incredible (and stressful) journey.

For those of you in my shoes, please don’t give up. Use this as motivation to do better next year. I know I will!!

Thank you all. I sincerely wish you all good luck :)

Don't give up. As a re-applicant, I know the feeling, but just take what you have learned about the process and about yourself and improve for ROTC, Big Army, re-applying, or whatever your next step might be. Good luck and keep your head up!

keep your ap open. apply for VP nom, never give up! the race is still just starting!

Great post, @EastRound. If you’re as mature and put together as your post implies, then you’re probably far along on Plan B, C, D and so on. And ready to, as we say here, bloom where you’re planted.

At the same time, all is not lost. DD failed to get a nomination from an SA. Then, just two days before the national decision day of May 1, she got word of an LOA, pending a nomination. And the next day, she was told a nom had been “found” for her. Moral of the story: If an SA wants you enough, they’ll find a way to get you. It’s a very slim hope, but a hope nonetheless.

Whichever path you take, best wishes!

Ditto don’t give up or close app. Complete app and let SA tell you no. That way if you re-apply, they see you are a finisher.
Always a chance for VP nom!
Same for alternate.

Proceed with other paths but keep the light on over an open door.

Definitely do not give up! My DS is at USMAPS right now after applying twice. He happily accepted it as the pathway to his dream. In the end he is grateful for the detour because he’s right where he is supposed to be. Not every road is straight. For you it’s not the end, but a chance to regroup and come back stronger, better and more focused on your goal. Keep your eye on the prize and you will get there. USMA appreciates the tenacity of reapplicants.

What an incredible statement! I know you are disappointed, as anyone would be, but I have a feeling it is not over for you. As an applicant, I hope I have half the humility and determination you demonstrated in your post. Keep your head up and press on. I have no doubt that you will march into that long grey line one way or the other.

Woah! It's not over yet! You still can apply and continue applying until you're not yet 23 years old on July 1 of the year admitted. Plus there are so many other ways to get nominated! Look here! Look here! Don't give up, keep on trying. If you really want this, chase after it, don't just give it up. Also, consider ROTC in your college or other private military academies, such as The Citadel.

I had one appointed off the national waitlist in late May. You just NEVER know! Especially in this cycle, there are stressors and things to deal with that are at least throwing curveballs...so ‘ya just don’t know how all that will pan out.

Work your other plans, but don’t close your application. It’s not a hard NO until after reporting day. In fact, due to ROM requirements, the Oath wasn’t taken immediately this year at USNA, and I believe there was even an appointment added during the ROM period!

Adding: I recent read on the forums of an applicant who has received a service connected nom, as well as an appointment, so was inquiring how to withdraw her nom request so another candidate could be nominated. That could be you (as an alternate). A long shot? Yes. Certainly. But there is a lot in this whole process that is beyond your control. And behind the scenes that you will never know/understand. So don’t close you application. You will do well wherever you end up.

Mine came in June - It isn't over yet. Welcome to the roller coaster called Service Academy Admissions... Put your hands up as you have just rounded the first of many hills in this process.

In full agreement with the “it ain’t over till it’s over” crowd.

Let’s say another applicant or even two ahead of you on the slate is DQ’d medically and it gives you new life. The way I see it, you keep pressing on. Medical DQs and decisions on waivers are continually reshaping the playing field. No one wants to point to it, but it happens.

A lot can happen. But, Plan B, etc. should be moved to the forefront of your planning.

That seems really early for the nomiations to be settled for your state. Our packets in Georgia were due on 10/1 and 10/30.
Love your attitude - It is contageous!

It's not over till you get the TWE. Not something you should hold your breath on, but nominations have been known to mysteriously appear.

USMA loves reapplicants. Not sure abut reapplicants from other sources, but there are WCS points specifically allocated to college reapplicants.

Like what others are saying: Don't give up!

Don't withdraw your application because you do not have a nom, someone in my district (who I know personally) got into the prep school because he did not get a nomination. Wait to hear back from your senators and apply for the VP nomination. West Point may also sponsor you to a prep school.

As always, keep your Plan B, C, D, and E all ready to go. If WP is your dream you might want to look into ROTC at a civilian college, or some of the junior military colleges (Marion Military Institute, New Mexico Military Institute, etc.), or some of the senior military colleges (Virginia Military Institute, Texas A&M, Norwich, etc.) I am currently a reapplicant from last cycle, I am not attending any ROTC programs, nor am I at any military colleges, just a civilian university.

I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you succeed!

when you say alternate do you mean not one of the 10 or did your MOC do principal/alternate?

Hi,
I believe they did principal/alternate because the letter explicitly stated I was selected as an alternate.

Have a good day
