Last year for USAFAPS?

Haven't we gone around this mulberry bush enough yet? Doesn't look like anyone is going to be swayed one way or the other. Looks like folks on both sides are entrenched.

I have to agree...as we've completely deviated from the original post's topic...I'd say it's getting close to time to wrap this up. "Back and forth" slap, spank, tickle...that's not what we're here for.

Mulberry?

I like Mulberry pie too.

I have never seen a poster so obsessed with advocating the closing or reforming the prep school. I never said diversity at all cost, please don't put words in my mouth. I said cut all educational benefits equally. Please get it straight.

The prep school is an indirect commissioning source. What else would you do with the training you receive there but dropout or attend the academy. Not sure how many prepster graduated with 2013 but I know of several. What a shame that a few prep cadet that failed makes the total program a failure. I feel it doesn't need reforming, or reduction of slots, it should remain as is.
Kindergarten is an indirect commissioning source too.

Is the mulberry pie done?

I agree Kindergarten is a indirect commissioning source and I think pre kindergarten is necessary for many students. :thumb:

I think I will make a peach pie today.

My Internet is out, so I'm doing thus from my phone. My first response when I get to a computer will be to DevilDog. I'll try to use more pictures than words so it's easier to understand.

Be easy. He thought you threw the 1st punch and he values your service. He later apologized. :)

Included in the "apology" was the question of why Atlantic City lifeguards aren't military... A fine question the widow of PO Nathan Bruckenthal might have a good answer.

That is ridiculous. The person that said that is a Public Affairs Officer (a glad hander) that came from the Coast Guard, until recently their checks were signed by the Secratary of Transportation. I don't know if the culture has changed since my time, but most of my buddies that were in the Navy, Air Force, and Marines, did not consider the Coast Guard part of the military. They were kind of like the folks that rescued people.

If you are a puke, so is he.

Oh, I am certainly a puke, no doubt about that. And now I deconstruct your best attempt at attacking the wrong person.

You're right, it is ridiculous, which is why I called it out in the first place. But you are correct, I was a "glad hander", a relatively small group of Coasties interdict migrants by shaking their hands. Oh, you meant my public affairs job (you do realize the Marine Corps has far more "glad handers"... what's the saying "Every Marine is a Glad Hander"?

I'm pretty sure all of our checks were "signed" by the Treasury (you know, where the money comes from once it is taken from the tax payer (or printed)), but if not, DOT was "signing" the checks 10 years ago, which I guess is a relatively short time.

And no, the culture hasn't changed, your friends are still wrong (of course, it would be interesting to know the percentage of your friends that did their jobs v. training).

"They were kind of like the folks that rescue people."

There we go. You got one thing right. That's actually one of the statutory (big word for "required") missions of the Coast Guard.

I guess it is not out of line to call someone a "puke" because he did not serve. I actually admire and tried to talk my daughter into the Coast Guard and my son to CGA. They have a great mission. So do we also consider the lifeguards in Atlantic City military because the pull people out of the water on a daily basis?

I am sorry if I thought the wrong person called that gentleman a puke. Please accept my apologies.

It WAS out of line to call someone a puke, but that was someone else, not me. Frankly I don't really care when people try to excuse their ignorant comments with a "I actually admire" comment.... I actually don't really care, just like I'm actually not sure your daughter or son would have made it in the Coast Guard. Agreed, they have a great mission. When Atlantic City lifeguards are serving on 110' cutters in the North Arabian Gulf (look it up on google maps) or plucking Marines of of the shores of Japanese islands, or patrolling the coast of Vietnam, or flying over Korea, or escorting vessels in the Atlantic, or attacking Spanish ships in the Carib, or British ships off the U.S. coast in 1812..... well then MAYBE we can consider the lifeguards of Atlantic City to be "the military"... but maybe they'll also need a little something like 14 USC 1.

So please, if you're going to apologize, or make fun of a service AT LEAST TRY to sound smart doing it. I realize I didn't include pictures in my first post, but most of this stuff should be pretty clear.

Every Marine may be a Glad Hander, but every Marine is a rifleman first. At Bataan Marines took 70% casualties, at every call this country has made, Marines have come through.

The checks were signed by the Sec of Transportation.

Everyone of my friends did their jobs. One of my best friends was an Army Ranger that survived in Somalia during the Black Hawk Down situation.

I am pretty sure my son would have survived CGA. He has done very well at USAFA. My daughter would have done fine at any of the academies, but she did not want to be in the military.

I am not going to apologize. I am not making fun of any service, I am just stating the facts.

I was waiting for Bataan reference, when we all must immediately praise the Marines. If casualties are the measure, the U.S. Coast Guard had the highest percetage service losses, of any service in WWI (even higher than the Atlantic City lifeguards!)

But we don't have to compare deaths rates (who really wants to). In the end, the Marine Corps tends to impress ex-marines and current marines far more than it ever impressed me (but they do have very nice uniforms). You can like your service, and I can like mine...

Who did you fight while you were in?

Apparently you are as good at reading your own posts, are you are at reading mine....

Elvis has left the building, or in this case the OP.

Seriously, unless you guys can bring it back to the rumor, or the impact of closure, it is best to continue this via pms.

Just a Mom, but is this what we want 17 yos to think about us as posters?

Maybe we're too concern with what 17 year olds think...

but yes, it has become pretty clear from the discussion that USAFAPS hasn't met the expectations of many here, including the "mission" USAFAPS has to accomplish.
