Lieutenant Colonel Scheller in the Brig

I just read that LtCol Sheller was issued a letter of reprimand and a forfeiture of $5,000 worth of pay for one month, after pleading guilty to all charges during his court-martial hearing. That was quick.😳

"he will likely receive either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions."

There it is. That's why he pleaded guilty.

I am sort of surprised he didnt fight it. I read online that they were going to use the defense position that if General Milley also went around the chain of command by talking to China and Pelosi without informing the President, that what Sheller did was no better or worse. Not saying i agree or disagree with that position, but it would have made for an interesting trial

I haven’t followed the legal proceedings but seems like a win-win. LTC Scheller retains some level of notoriety that could help fill his coffers, while likely getting an honorable discharge. Military and Biden administration get to move past the story that hasn’t served them well in the media. God bless America!

Okay, I'm going to sound like the bad guy...but I was/am disappointed that the convening authority sent this to a SCM. Maybe my career was "different" but I have never seen an officer sent to a SCM, it's always been a GCM. At a GCM he was facing serious pain. At a SCM...they can't assess a punitive discharge so...slap on the wrist and this goes away quickly.

The Corps' plan?

Seems like they wanted this to go away quickly and not make him some sort of political martyr. Looks like that might work.

It seems like that is the strategy for a lot of people in and out of the military.

I don’t believe it is a defense to say (even if factually true)…well since someone else did it and didn’t get charged/punished, that means the law doesn’t apply to the individual who is being charged. Just because someone else stole something and wasn’t charged doesn’t negate culpability of someone else who did and was…what they still did was illegal. The only thing that I know of where cases can be “equated,” where facts and circumstances are very similar, is sentence appropriateness.

I don’t understand why certain “witnesses” were even allowed to testify.

I understand and agree. Legally.

For me it is the tiers of justice we have in this society.

Some dummies go into the Capitol and take selfies, jail for 6 months and evidence isn’t turned over, medical needs aren’t met, etc. At the same time nobody is held to account for the riots all over the country the year before. At the same time a kid shoots up a school and is let out on bail. This guy is in the brig. Andrew McCabe admits to lying as second in command of FBI, they reinstate his pension. Sanctuary cities. Catch and release. They entrapped General Flynn. Of course this issue of the General disobeying the chain of command and he gets a day of uncomfortable partisan bickering.

Seems political.

I know I’m going to get jumped on for this since the Lieutenant Colonel was grandstanding but I really think he is battling some inner demons. I do believe he needs to be separated at this point but it also seems to me that there had to be some indication prior to all this that was missed by the chain of command. I find it hard to believe all of a sudden he goes from perfect officer to jumping on the internet yelling. Call me what you want but just my two cents. And let’s be realistic the government played their cards right the MAINSTREAM news is hardly talking about Afghanistan now. They want things quiet and head back to business as usual.

I know I’m going to get jumped on for this ...
Not by me. Did he do some things wrong? You betcha! Was a lot of the media coverage distraction for other "things going on"? You betcha! Was his punishment lighter than an enlisted person's would have been? You betcha!

But, in the end, albeit a plea deal, he 'fessed up, plead guilty, and took his lumps like a good Marine.

"Once a government is committed to silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of repressive measures until it becomes a source of terror to all it citizens, creating a country where everyone lives in fear." President Harry S. Truman.
