Plead guilty to all 6 misdemeanors.Just reported he plead guilty. Not sure to what.
Nonsense.I just read that LtCol Sheller was issued a letter of reprimand and a forfeiture of $5,000 worth of pay for one month, after pleading guilty to all charges during his court-martial hearing. That was quick.
Seems like they wanted this to go away quickly and not make him some sort of political martyr. Looks like that might work.Okay, I'm going to sound like the bad guy...but I was/am disappointed that the convening authority sent this to a SCM. Maybe my career was "different" but I have never seen an officer sent to a SCM, it's always been a GCM. At a GCM he was facing serious pain. At a SCM...they can't assess a punitive discharge so...slap on the wrist and this goes away quickly.
The Corps' plan?
It seems like that is the strategy for a lot of people in and out of the military.Seems like they wanted this to go away quickly and not make him some sort of political martyr. Looks like that might work.
I don’t believe it is a defense to say (even if factually true)…well since someone else did it and didn’t get charged/punished, that means the law doesn’t apply to the individual who is being charged. Just because someone else stole something and wasn’t charged doesn’t negate culpability of someone else who did and was…what they still did was illegal. The only thing that I know of where cases can be “equated,” where facts and circumstances are very similar, is sentence appropriateness.I am sort of surprised he didnt fight it. I read online that they were going to use the defense position that if General Milley also went around the chain of command by talking to China and Pelosi without informing the President, that what Sheller did was no better or worse. Not saying i agree or disagree with that position, but it would have made for an interesting trial
I understand and agree. Legally.I don’t believe it is a defense to say (even if factually true)…well since someone else did it and didn’t get charged/punished, that means the law doesn’t apply to the individual who is being charged. I don’t understand why certain “witnesses” were even allowed to testify.
Not by me. Did he do some things wrong? You betcha! Was a lot of the media coverage distraction for other "things going on"? You betcha! Was his punishment lighter than an enlisted person's would have been? You betcha!I know I’m going to get jumped on for this ...
So does your post.Seems political
I am not sure how. It does involve different treatment of the political sides. So does your post.
