Marines doing that voodoo that we do so well (Post yours too)

Not the first time I was corrected by a Senior Chief. Hard to believe, I know.

I have to refresh my memory of the history of the two symbols occasionally. It's amazing with lots of heavy hitters involved. The caduceus is the symbol of my rating even though it is the symbol of commerce, alchemy, thievery, and lying. Think about it though. Healthcare in the US is one-sixth-ish of the economy. Healthcare is a business for sure and some might say that thievery and lying is involved.

Hmm...

You don't think the red looks better on a dark uniform?

Oh, wait...they don't do that anymore.
That guy's a legend. A master chief proud of every red stripe. He must've done 54 years with all those hash marks.

This uniform is definitely for real. A friend introduced me to Rudy during his later years in the Navy. He told me to get a haircut.

I was keeping track of "pseudo daughter #2" when she was on her long sea period from Kings Point. She embarked on a DDG...and the CMC looked a lot like this guy, just not as many hashmarks.

I asked about the red stripes, and she said he would tell people: "I work hard, harder than most. Unfortunately, sometimes I play hard, once harder than most."

I think I would have liked him.

Interesting Fact - for many years after the Navy started using the Gold Insignia for Good Conduct, it was not allowed for reservists. This really bothered my father who I think was sporting 8 red hash marks when they finally "turned gold" due to change in uniform regs. When he finally retired, he had 10 and was just a short time from #11.

Marine Gene Hackman, found dead with his wife and dog in their New Mexico home.
Hackman, 95, Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their dog were all dead when deputies entered their home to check on their welfare around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Avila said.

So many good movies come to mind. Bat 21 (just finished reading the book), Hoosiers, No Way Out.
Sad and suspicious.

I am going to guess carbon monoxide poisoning. Police say that there was "no evidence of foul play" and the dog being dead leads me to believe it wasn't something like a murder-suicide kind of thing.

Rest in peace, Popeye Doyle.

I thought about that. A likely cause.

I was thinking that too and still think it is a good possibility. I have just read some news stories that wife was found in bathroom next to container with spilled medications. They have apparently been dead for some time. The meds could be just a coincidence, but who knows right now.

Dog was found in locked kennel.
