Mids told not to return

I do not see the purpose of posting this. Our kids are getting the e-mails. We parents are not. Our kids will know what is going on. If we need to know what's going on, our kids will let us know. No reason at all to post any of this.

I agree with brewmeist and others above who don't see the sense of a thread like this. Parents on this forum are already in a state of worry - why add more worry to it? I've got a '21 mid and another applying, but I've actually refrained from participating in the SA forums because of this kind of stuff.

How is there worry?!? We can’t control any of this. We are participants. We know now from the Supe reform is happening the weekend of the 28th.

This thread causes worry? It gives exact information of what is happening.

Nothing changes with or without this post.

Maybe some parents aren’t in contact with their midshipmen. Maybe some parents of candidates are looking for this news.

You're right A1Janitor - you're a parent of a mid and, as such, apparently have everything figured out. Parents of mids are in contact with them. Most folks on here are eagerly awaiting news of their hopeful candidates. There are also a number of extremely helpful forum members. I tend to agree with brewmeist and others above that your starting this thread and tone wasn't warranted. It's not what you said but how you said it.

Maryland identified its first cases of community spread today, meaning there are now COVID-19 positive people in MD with no history of contact with previously identified outbreak clusters. Things are getting pretty serious. My daughter's bus driver called out today, and her bus came more than an hour late because of a shortage of subs. Teachers are out as well. Our kids have school tomorrow, but will then be out for 2 weeks until March 28. JHU and and the entire UM system are out as well. There is solid, factual COVID-19 specific info available on the MD Governor website.

I have no problem discussing any of this, once it becomes public, and valid. The timing is what I did not think appropriate. You posted that Mids would not be coming back on Sunday. At the time, the official word was to be prepared to not return on Sunday. Theres a difference between the two. Then you mentioned that an e-mail hasn't come yet, but apparently they will have two more weeks home. You ended up being correct, but at the time there was no official word. Yes, as you said, this is a discussion board, but it is not a rumor mill. There is no prize for being the first to get the word out.

Well said! My mid and friends are returning from spring break from overseas. A1Janitor- if you're going to start a new thread, please do it responsibly and not based on rumor at the time of your posting.

I DID NOT write mids were told not to return Sunday.

Go back and read it. I wrote “Mids told not to return” in the title. You added the Sunday part. Of course Mids were planning to return now through Sunday.

I was accurate. The email said that they should be prepared not to return Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Of course it also said hold/remain in place until further notice.

I then said there will be two weeks more of break. My son didn’t get the email ... but he certainly got the info from someone who did. And I shared it in the thread already going. In fact, I wasn’t the first to report it.

I am glad I don’t have to apologize for being wrong. Others on this site did post incorrect information they had at the time - without all this fanfare. No matter. At least we all know more about it.

The post was started with a copy of the email in my possession. It was NOT a rumor when I posted this thread.

Not sure why you are doing this, but I am sorry you were negatively affected by this.

The email to all parents from the Supt was sent 12 mins ago regarding the Delayed Return of the Brigade. Your rumor was posted six hours ago. The point Brewmeist and I were making was to wait for official word from the USNA before spreading what you think is going to happen. An email was not available until 12 mins ago. It turned out to be correct, but it could have also caused unnecessary worry had the rumor been incorrect. As Brewmiest said - there is no prize for being the first to post a rumor based on what you think is going to happen or what you think you heard.

How about the Supt gave an official response this evening and Mids now know what is going on is the key part. This is good training for the future. This is pretty much what every deployment is like and as future officers... for some Mids... in a matter of months... they will be passing word to their Divisions with things like this and deployments. Every Mid is pretty happy right now.

I am done with this thread. I didn’t post a rumor. Ever.

My first post was based on the email my son got at 10 minutes before I posted - it was accurate and was not a rumor. The last post I made was a link to the Supe’s letter to parents hours later. Completely different email.

The first email earlier, as others have said, was "Be prepared for updates" - it didn't say "Mids told not to return." I'm just pointing out as Brewmeist and Justdoit19 also said that your starting of this thread was not based on what the Academy put out, but based on your conjecture and rumor. And in this age of worry about Academy applications coupled with the virus, I agreed with Brewmeist and Justdoit19 that you started a thread based on rumor - not an email in hand that said "Mids told not to return." The email released in the last 20 mins said "Delayed Return of the Brigade." Please don't mislead forum members with your conjecture.

OK. Everybody stop.

This continued discussion is going nowhere and it is not helping anyone. I’ve temporarily locked the thread because I want everyone to read this before replying again.

This kind of arguing and pettiness is not going to be tolerated here. There should be no more discussion of whether it was right or wrong to post, and no more criticism of other posters. Anyone who violates that will be given infraction points.

Act like adults.

Hmm... Not what I am hearing from mine. He and his mates would rather just go back, and get the term done. Not sure of everybody's reasons, but know mine is very excited for his summer blocks, and fears they will end up compromised if the term runs long. Ce la vie though, and Siempre Gumby!
