We have the tools to do online class (WEBEX) but we are both concerned that the bandwidth/tools will be oversubscribed at our school so we're planning to upload text and/or video for the students and will get assignments back from them posted onto the class Blackboard (tm) site.

Thanks OldRetSWO - but most folks attending this forum are laymen to whatever you've posted above. For clarity - Mids will not report to USNA for classes till (at least) March 28th. Hopefully they all have their issued computers to start on-line classes next week. If they don't, they need to work out with USNA protocol to figure out how they can obtain their computers. Glad you had them uploading their assignments last week. But, honestly, your message is not so clear. And I'm sure USNA midshipmen are not going to come to these forums to figure out what they need to do. Cheers.

I had the same thought yesterday ! This is just a small blip in the history of USNA (and the Country), and will likely (hopefully) be forgotten by the time the current Plebes graduate. Keep Calm and Carry On !
 
I looked the words up...ill admit it. I took it as referring to my question about a live class (so mids in eastern all the way to western time zones log on at the same time...potentially 8 am for one and 4 am for another), or 'do it at your own pace'. Log on and do it as schedule allows.

Not a unique question to usna. I wonder that in general about all the classes that will be online....

Im visualizing the bandwidth required. And the internet exploding. At least at my house with 5 different learners needing it.

This is not a hoax. It is a real virus that spreads quickly, that people do not yet have immunity to. The goal of all the closures is to stop the exponential growth so we do not overtax our healthcare system. Also, how is the fact that people have dyes a hoax? How many more people have to lose their life before you take it seriously?!?

With all due respect, my sister’s in laws have it - including a 90 year old. My sister may be exposed.

This virus is not a hoax. It is a serious virus that needs to be contained. President Trump shut off travel to China in January which seems like a game changer. Travel is being restricted so it doesn’t spread all over.

The hoax is the hysteria. People buying toilet paper. Walmart shelves empty. Calling for impeachment. Overstating the mortality rates. It takes a year to have a vaccine. Travel is being properly restricted. But to tell me millions are going to die ... or this is worse than WWII politicizes it. That is the hoax.

I am hoping the warm weather in April will allow life to get back to normal.

In the meantime - I believe it is fast spreading virus like a flu but it appears the mortality rate is actually less than the flu.

Edit ... they live in Westchester County in New York. They are saying you obviously don’t want it - but it is mild.

Nobody has brought up impeachment on the issue of this virus. Nobody. Yes the toilet paper hoarding is an over-reaction. But the rest of your post is seriously off the mark, irresponsible and dangerous.

The mortality rates cannot be known with certainty but the most conservative best estimate is about 1%, which puts it at 10 times the mortality rate of the seasonal flu. This rate varies substantially with age, with those age 60 and over at much greater risk of death. Perfectly healthy looking/feeling people are carrying the virus and spreading it unknowingly to their loved ones and to strangers. Please do not spread false statistics on the mortality rate.

Look at Italy - they have so many patients in their hospitals that they have adapted wartime triage rules - if you show up needing a ventilator and you are 80 years, you cannot get one. They are rationing lifesaving equipment to use on the folks with higher survival probabilities. This is a SERIOUS public health crisis.

My son shared it with me because it alters both his and my travel plans? And it is a small logistical issue for me during tax season.

I prefer personal attacks stopped. You are a BGO and I am a parent of a plebe. This shouldn’t be occurring.

What does being a BGO have to do with asking a valid question? You seem very comfortable correcting others yet when you are questioned or corrected you want to call "FOUL."

I hope your travel plans were not to visit your sister or her in-laws.
 
Folks, STOP the bickering. As the Surgeon General and Dr. Carson said at today's news conference, what makes America great is the ability to come together and work together for the common good in times of crisis.

And, as FDR said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." Take precautions. Don't panic. Don't spread panic. It's a serious situation but keep in mind there are 7.5 billion people on the Earth. We'll get through this but we lose our souls if we attack each other.
